Infant mortality lowest it has ever been in the history of man

But there are people ruling us that literally do this, and don't give me the "muh conspiracy", we have proof now, there are pictures and videos and literal proof in those E files.

Plus we have our countries supporting another country murdering hundreds of thousands of children.

Obviously the mods will delete this comment because duh, but for the short time it's here, the things I'm talking are facts and you value the wrong things.

we live the longest

Does it feel like winning to be stressed and anxious until you're 90 instead of having meaning and going out at 75?

I have electricity

... I don't know what to say to that, seriously.

I can talk with friends all over the planet for free, instantly

Yet we have fewer and fewer real friends we care to meet

I can get to anywhere on the planet within a day

You can't be in two places at the same time, how can this be an argument?

There is no reason for anyone not to feel exceptionally optimistic about the future these days.

MF they're literally trying to start WW3 wtf are you talking about?

If anyone feels negative, I recommend seeing a psychologist.

It feels like a passage from Thus Spoke Zarathustra if it was written today, it's crazy how this reads like a "last man" manifesto.

Truly a dystopian comment, I hope you can eventually open your eyes.

Government censorship killed online communities a long time before AI slop, even on HN there are some things that are just facts, and obvious, and anyone with more than two neurons can see, but talking about them gets your message removed.

I mean it's another case of "Are we the baddies?" where they talk about having the skull on the uniform.

Like your company is literally called Palantir, after the object from the Tolkien universe (if you're living under a rock), which allows the user to see things happening in other places, and allows "A wielder of great power such as Sauron could dominate a weaker user through the stone".

Not only that but your company's founder goes around the world doing lectures about the Antichrist.

And if that wasn't enough, you're working with governments around the world to oppress citizens and have been complicit in a literal genocide by partnering with Israel in the past years.

I mean if you're not the baddies, then maybe Voldemort is just misunderstood, and the Joker is the good guy, etc.

Even if they do it's a little late at this point, plus I don't believe it, since Trump and most people in the admin are too friendly (borderline controlled) by the people who are friendly/control entities like Blackrock, it's either beneficial to them to stop the competition from doing it since they bought enough for now or there is a big gotcha in there.

I know how that paragraph reads, but the past couple of years have made me too cynical to trust anything they say they're going to do.

It's funny how all the comments are discussing it from a "was Maduro good or bad" point of view.

This is an invasion for oil, nothing to do with drugs since they come from Mexico, and that propaganda is weak. And nothing to do with Maduro being a dictator or anything similar since each one of our politicians is objectively worse than him, I wish this was an exgeration, but when you look at the Epstein files, even the few unredacted things found there (and most of them are redacted) make it obvious that we are literally ruled by criminals.

Now you either look at it as it is, and accept that Santa isn't real, and that life is hard, and we are greedy, and we don't care about other people, and then you stop the moralizing when you do nothing about it, or you keep gobbling up the lie after lie, that Murica is the good guy, and everyone else is evil, and that all Murica's wars are moral and bringing freedom and liberating those third worlders.

TLDR: free your mind before you talk about freeing others (which is ironic because I'm doing the same thing, but I'm also writing this message for myself).

It's already this dystopic, like any medium where people can talk freely gets eventually controlled by corrupt politicians etc.

Anyways, the control of speech isn't only in surveillance, it's ingrained deeply in culture, taboos, education, etc.

I have talked to religious people before, they all exhibited a certain characteristic, you could talk about somethings but you can't touch on other things, their mind won't accept it, so they bug and start saying nonsense.

I've noticed the same thing with most people when it comes to certain subjects, you'd be talking to an educated person with a relatively high IQ and a mind that is capable to think critically in certain domains, yet once you point out something their mind has been trained to deem anti cultural (like for example who controls what), they turn into Agent Smith and they stop listening to reason.

Anyways, this is HN so what I'm saying is that the control of the controllers is already absolute, it's been linearly increasing for years, they'd cause something then tighten their control of us for "our safety", until one day we get enough and some take out the guillotines and others the bald eagle etc. been happening for millenia, if we as a species were able to rebel on authority before s*it absolutely hit the fan, history would've been a lot cleaner.

A huge win to whom?

I'm a little too simple to assign moral values like good/bad or win/lose to nature things, all I know is I like cats more because they're cute, so I'll always take them over coyotes.

Humans could be considered invasive too, it's not a huge win if a super predator starts beating us back. At least not from our agreed upon definitions of "win", then again if one starts to play with the meaning of words, one can say the sky is green.

No there are lots of Chinese phones with minimal bloatware, like the nothing phone cmf 1, sure they only come with 2 years of updates but what you gonna do at that price...

If you're in the middle east, I'm sure you'd rather be spied on by China.

Do you imagine that shit? You're a nuclear scientist, working on a program for generating electricity, your country is open to being audited and complies with the restrictions and has no weapon's program, one day you come home and then a fucking rocket comes right inside your appartment and kils you and your whole family.

Ain't that a bitch? I get Khamas was hiding there too... And since they have all that precise rockets that can take a single appartment down, why did they reduce Gaza to rubble?

The ramifications of this make me sick: evil not only wins but also writes history... And yeah the midwits here will unironically look you in the eye and explain how killing children is ok because of this of that... You being able to explain horrors doesn't make you smart or pragmatic, it makes you have no self respect and makes your personal boundaries weak, and the same mind that finds arguments to cope with the horror his tax money funds will find arguments to cope with a lot more until it's his turn on the grinder and by then it'll be too late.

I suspect Israel has backdoor access to most CPUs.

Here is how Pegasus seems: - China has 1.5 billion people, lots of resources, would profit a lot economically if they found a way to hack iOS, etc. But yet couldn't hack it. - Israel with its 7 million people, not only hacks iOS multiple times, but does it to spy on its allies.

Now I've seen the threads analysing Pegasus' complexity, I don't know if it's been reproduced, and if it has then I guess it logically proves me wrong (the tinfoil hatter in me still thinks its right though).

Here is why:

Israel has a lot of silicon fabs or R&D centers, now it makes ZERO sense for the US to have fabs or R&D centers in Israel, since that country is (allegedly) always at the risk of being bomber for no reason at all (yeah right).

Intel has had fabs in Israek since the 80s, why not in Japan or France or the UK (France and the UK are close allies to the US and have no earthquakes or risk of being bombed), why not even Canada?

And I compared the dates of when intel started putting the Intel Management Engine in all of their CPU and the date of which they built their biggest fab in Israel, then I went down the rabbit hole of when AMD started using PSP (similar tech to Intel ME), and it coinciding with it buying a large pentesting startup in Israel, then starting to build its R&D centers there, Apple and Qualcomm have similar stories.

Obviously this is all tinfoil, and while the dates coincide it's obviously not enough.

But to each their own, and I choose to treat my tech as if it was all was backdoored already, because for me the evidence (while not enough to be sure) is enough for how much I value my privacy.

If only you knew how you sounded.

First of all you count wars that started more than 10 years ago in the same category, so that's dishonest.

Second you use reduced numbers for Israel-Gaza war.

Third you call it Israel-Hamas war.

About the nuking of Japan: listen up, there is nothing you can say, it's a case of the midwit meme, anyone smart enough or dumb enough would tell you it's obvious nuking 2 cities is evil, it's basically the definition of evil, all men are at war so you nuke 2 cities filled with women and kids... Now it's the midwit's opinion that's curious, being just smart enough to repeat the brainwashing that's been done to him in a coherent way, but not smart enough to notice the holes in his arguments, the midwit always holds these surreal opinions like how nuking 2 cities was the only choice (and not done as a warning to the soviet union, because God forbids governments do something bad like this, it's instead a conspiracy theory, and the real life event is a cartoonishly evil side vs a cartoonishly good side, and everything the cartoonishly good side does is good and can be explained including nuling 2 cities etc.)

If only you could take a step back and reflect on what you wrote with an open mind.... but then again if this was possible there'd be a lot less wars, and the bad people would know it while being bad and not 100 years later have it explained to their grandchildren.

But hey who cares, the situation is so fucked up and the people so clueless we might as well be living in some sort of simulation so it doesn't matter either ways.

If you're a government, it makes more sense to throw the money at creating your own infrastructure than paying to make a foreign company control everything you're running.

Everything is alright until the country with the highest obesity rate in the world chooses not to honor your patent for ozempic for example and makes it for a lot cheaper back home, then you escalate, then they escalate, something something your software stops getting updates or gets locked down.

I obviously don't think this is a likely scenario to happen, but so is getting nuked, yet every government has some sort of bunker command center, but everyone just seems ok with trusting those US companies with everything.

And today you don't even have to recreate the wheel, there are some open source alternatives for almost everything, and as a government if you put in the money you could improve on those, other governments can get inspired and improve on them as well, etc.

AI makes things too easy, this will destroy culture.

We thought that movies adapting to the tiktok generation wouldn't kill cinema, and that new and better directors would rise... this didn't happen and even the latest movies from good directors like ridley scott are quite bad.

Now 3 years ago I typed "lovecraft nietzsche" and would only find 2 videos on youtube that pertain to what I'm looking for, aka the link between the two and how lovecraft's cosmicism might be a metaphor for the abyss etc. but those 2 videos are both excellent, 2 different people thought what I thought but cared enough to write it down and make a video about it. Today I can barely find these videos, there is a sea of AI generated videos with AI narrated text rambling on and on about lovecraft this nietzsche that to hit the 20min mark and maximize ad revenue, all this in a sea of short videos that youtube push harder and harder like multiple shorts between each 2 normal videos. Did another plateform overtake youtube? Not really.

Now some author will use AI to help with his next book, it will work and he will publish faster, then other authors will do the same, and others will optimize it more and more until most books available will be 90% written by AI, colleges will teach you AI assisted writing, and decades after that no one would even think to write a book without the help of AI.

How the hell would you explain to your publisher that you need 3 years to write the sequel when everyone else is doing it in 3 months.

It really does take the beauty out of the whole experience.

Bitcoin didn’t seem more than an intellectual exercise when it was introduced.

I don't know sure it's a little more than that but barely, it does solve a problem (the banks being centralized and censorship prone etc.) but another way ti solve that problem would've been to change the financial system.

Facebook seemed like a way to stalk college students.

It's not even that, people are more lonely than ever despite Facebook.

HN seemed like an alternative to Reddit.

It's not?

An iPad seemed like a dumbed-down laptop.

An iPad is literally a dumbed down laptop, has the same chip as a macbook, but a totally different dumbed down OS to not affect macbook sales.

Smartphones seemed like a desktop computer in your pocket.

They're less than that in most ways except for select use cases.

I mean sure be optimistic but those examples aren't the best.

This is good, it means they'll optimize for this kind of coding to have less coders to save pennies here and there and please the shareholders short term, and get left behind in the long term once an old school startup that tries to do everything better comes up.

Of course I'm fantasizing and we sadly don't live in this kind of world (Amazon or Google would stomp you if you come for their users) but hey a man can dream.

100% about everything you said.

My cousin studied at Ecole Polytechnique, then did a phd at another top french school and become a professor there.

He has 6 articles publishes in the top 3 Math/CS/AI conferences.

He was literally paid 45k€ a year, before taxes and other things, that's 2300€ a month after taxes, his rent was 1100€ because it's Paris, now Polytechnique has one of the hardest math/physics entrance exams in the world, and he published more papers and in more prestigious conferences than most of his colleagues.

He took a couple months to leetcode then got the fuck out to the US, his salary now is legit an order of magnitude higher than what it was, doesn'r have to think about food, transportation, still gets to do research, etc.

I mean you can be as patriotic as you want but when it's that different who's gonna stay here...

Eventually we'll be able (as in it will be possible) to pinpoint some "contrarian" gene, then make something that only kills these individuals, and put it into mosquitoes.

Now if it's possible to do then obviously some government somewhere will do it (eventually), and no one will notice anything, say it's something that gives you a heart attack, and say we see a spike in heart attacks in 2050, it won't even be that significant since contrarian individuals are few, and just like that after a year the population will be a lot more docile.

It's still a sci-fi scenario now but it's scary to think about what the future will hold.
