Very valid points. I've been a remote worker for a year so I can understand many points. I haven't tried some things yet (travel) so hearing about it is insightful.

- Although my work permits being flexible, I'd rather have a normal person's schedule too! There's just too many real life things to take care of that require normal hours.

- After spending a lot of time alone, I have to find a friend to meet up with. I made another remote working friend so we meet up 2 times a week. It's odd but it does feel like there is some sort of pull towards human interaction embedded somewhere. I also enjoy the busy and loud cafe background.

- Taxes suck :( They have been very confusing since this is my first year. Still working on them :'(

PHP ain't that bad.

Recently built an API on PHP here. If you want to give PHP a chance, Laravel is one of the redeeming things of PHP. Although, not a micro-framework.

Start interviewing. And I'd secure an offer before giving your 2 weeks notice.

I learned a lot from a project on Github (https://github.com/braitsch/node-login) and taking a look at his code. I particularly liked the way he organized his project and the way he wrote his controllers. I was learning Node when I originally went over it, but I began writing my JS similar to how he wrote his. My code became more object-oriented.

I'm looking for webapp ideas. Not droid or iphone apps. I'd like to build something with Laravel or Angular since I have been learning both. Right now, I might go for a purely javascript text game, since I always wanted try that (candybox2, thegoldfactory).

How many users does Spollow have?
