I would rather the email honestly. IMs usually have the expectation that I'm going to respond to you "soon", which is an interruption/distraction. And they don't contain enough information so I have to start going back and forth with the other person.

At least with email, most people recognize that you will respond in your own timing in the next 24-48 hours. With IM I've found that expectation out the window.

It's a fairly simple thought experiment to ask yourself what if there was 10x items in this array? 100x? That is essentially what the O(n) notation is trying to quantify. You just don't need to do it that formally.

When I originally looked at it, I assumed that there was going to be some collaboration or other form of discussion tool to help others navigate your spec file and provide feedback. As it is, it doesn't feel like its adding the much value.

Being pro-Small Business doesn’t meant you have to be pro-Advertising. Facebook makes a killing taking money from small businesses through advertising, yet it is consistently one of the lowest ROI marketing techniques, not to mention generally creates the worst UX.

Can you build a successful business on advertising? Yes. But I’d argue that you don’t need to. Almost every service I pay for came to me by word of mouth. That takes time and effort to cultivate, but it isn’t affected by a software update. Or me wanting to not share my personal data.

That is absolutely a fair point. Speaking as someone who does not have military experience, I can't speak to it. But it would make sense that if you have the time to wait for them to repeat the phrase, that the longer phrase "SAY AGAIN" could be used.

Whereas "REPEAT" might not involve the time luxury.

At some point, someone is just going to hook up a decibel meter and automatically press the button when it hits a threshold. It might file a couple of bad complaints, but if the noise difference is significant, you could definitely increase your throughput.

Everyone who uses Git is using the distributed features. It is not possible to use Git without the distributed features, because every time you do a commit or a merge or a push, you are doing it on your local machine on your own remote.

That being said, I will agree with you that most remotes exist on personal computers and not server and we tend to be focused on more centralized servers. I think that is a remnant of the Subversion mentality and is slowly getting better.

But, the distributed features of git are alive and well. Maybe not as alive and well as we'd all like. But, alive and well.

Because of how Git is a distributed model, hosting your project on Github shouldn't be a big deal. You could host your project privately and then just have Github mirror that private host with hooks.

Git being distributed means that you can host your project on as many different places as you want. And making the workflow to accept pull requests for Github, Gitlab, or other providers really isn't very difficult. They are all just remotes.

If you're getting enough false alarms that removing the battery is a common occurrence, yes, you should get one fire alarm moved probably a couple feet. Which is not saying to get your house rewired in the slightest.

A good use of an override is for when something goes wrong. For instance, when you burn something in the oven and smoke comes through to the living room. You find the source of the problem, you turn off the alarm, and you deal with airing out your house. Something went wrong, you told the smoke alarm to be quiet because you're dealing with it, and you dealt with it.

The problem with your situation is that the smoke alarm is placed in a manner that makes your normal way of life be detectable as something going wrong. That isn't what overriding is meant for.

This feature has been discontinued for a few months now. I'm surprised nobody posted this until now.

I actually have found the plugin to be mostly adequate. There aren't a ton of sites that I feel deserve to be blocked from my search results, so syncing isn't a gigantic problem. I do find it annoying that there is a link added to each and every search result to block the site, but it might be useful if I decided to be really picky about my results.

You can update only a specific repo if you'd like. In which case it would be possible to limit the submodule command to only submodules existing in the current directory.

Yes, it would need to scale back up to the .gitmodules file, but it is still possible.

The sample size of this experiment is also not very large. If you look at the axis on the graphs, we're not talking in numbers that would let you to create solid generalizations.
