Plastics aren't a problem if people actually put them in the bin, and they are buried / recycled / burned.

Only 9% of all plastics ever produced has been recycled. 100% is impossible due to the various composite materials that exist.

Landfills don't work in many places in the world due to lack of space and are expensive, hard to manage and come with methane emissions. Burning is obviously the same as burning fossil fuels and cannot happen if we want to keep our planet habitable. It also happens almost always in poor communities that suffer health consequences because of it.

Even if the disposal was somehow magically solved, we still have the problem with production. Plastics are a lifeline to the fossil fuel industry and are expected to account for more than a third of the growth in world oil demand to 2030. Cracker plants for plastics production are also usually placed near communities of colour or in developing countries and create toxic conditions for life around them.

I'm not sure if "ironic" is the right word here, but that as a direct effect of climate change, coal power plants had to shut down and cars couldn't be manufactured is certainly an interesting twist.

Reading option one made me quite anxious. Having to backport a virtually infinite number of bugfixes and support for new hardware features from over 12 years of constant development sounds like a perfect way to burn out developers. I'm glad they went for the clearly more sustainable option of adopting the old data to their new client infrastructure.

I'm not on the Yoga team but work with them quite closely. There are no active plans for adding CSS Grid support mostly because the spec is kind of awkward with the ASCII-art style definitions that are very reliant on CSS as the source language. Personally, I've been warming up to the idea of using CSS Grid for UIs more and more lately after reading this post on Mozilla Hacks[0], but we haven't had many requests for adding it otherwise.

That sounds super cool! I was looking into writing Rust bindings to Yoga myself but then saw your library. I'd love to read a post about what you're doing once you've made sufficient progress with it.

Litho and ComponentKit have similar APIs and we try to bring them closer together, but I'm not sure what unifying them would actually look like. You would still end up with two libraries that target very different languages. React Native is there to stay if sharing logic is more important to you than raw speed.

If you have an Android phone with a Bluetooth headset you can do exactly that. By default you just need to long-press the play button on it. That said, I personally still very rarely use it that way.

I'm with a regional ISP in the UK (aquiss.net) and they assign you a native /56 if you ask nicely. What surprised me was how complicated it still is to get this set up compared to the DHCP and NAT setup we're all familiar with. I've never had issues running docker on their instances. Was that on ARM or x86? I've only used the latter so far.

Both React Native and Litho use Yoga[0] under the hood for layout, so there are already some shared underlying parts. I'm not familiar enough for RN in practice to say whether you could plug Litho Components into RN apps.
