This is my general structure.

* Background/Overview

* Project Scope

* Requirements (System level, or feature level)

* Requirements (The things I require from the client)

* Project Timing and Cost

* Out of Scope items or items that maybe addressed in a future phase of the project.

I found this book on writing a single page proposal to be quite helpful https://www.amazon.com/One-Page-Proposal-Business-Pitch-Pers...

I haven't ever succeeded in keeping it all one page but it is a great goal.

Attending conferences and training isn't a problem. But eventually if you follow kspaans advice you'll get turned away at the border and it will be a huge hassle from then forward. For most Canadians it is relatively easy to get a TN status (not a visa but the ability to work in US for a specific employer) with the appropriate documentation. Or you might need to investigate getting a B1 (business visa).

The information given regarding TN status isn't entirely accurate. I transitioned from a TN to a Greencard directly. There were several conditions that my immigration lawyer prepared me for so I wasn't violating dual-intent and there was a period of several months when I was unable to leave the US while I waited for my "Advance parole" travel documentation.
