This is really cool.

Just had an employee at our company start expensing BoldVoice. Being able to be understood more easily is a big deal for global remote employees.

Yes they prevent sideloading.

The scare part refers to warning dialogs that iOS would pop up if you used a link to an external web browser to collect payments. It would warn you that Apple wasn't running the payments and use scary language warning you about potential fraud, etc. to try to scare people away. They would also demand a 27% fee from developers for collecting money on the web outside apps if users were paying from following that link.

I've been following this project for a while now, and it's incredibly ambitious. It will take a while to reach its full potential but Jarred is doing an extraordinary amount of very good work on it, and I think there is a very good chance this will turn out to be a pretty big deal.

I switched to Ubuntu about 6 months ago and have been shocked at how well it works. It's actually good, not just barely-workable-if-you-are-a-zealot.

I keep a Mac around for when I need to run Xcode or Photoshop but that's about it. And I boot into Windows when I want to play games.

I think the way to think about this is that there are some people who figure out ways to do things or invent things that just wouldn't be figured out or discovered by other people.

So, it's not 10x or anything-X even, it's just that, if the stuff that can be uniquely provided by "10x" people is important to you, then you need someone like that. 10 1x developers aren't likely to give you that (except to the extent that you have 10 chances to discover that one of them is actually a 10xer on some dimension).

One of the big focuses for us this year is to make that experience much better.

We've already taken some steps. (We now just give you a regular React Native project if you need one), but we plan to keep working on this stuff until you can get all the power you need to build something like Screenshot Hero with the ease of use of just making a website.

It uses Apple's ARKit so it will only work on iPhones. And you need iOS 11 and at least an iPhone 6S or a very recent iPad for it to work.

Google has announced some Android AR stuff so when they roll they out, we will look at making this stuff work across both platforms. Sorry it won't work for you yet!

One time I was debugging a problem for a user of our desktop software (I work on https://expo.io) by sharing his screen and taking over his computer. And it turned out the reason the user was having problems was that in his /etc/hosts file, he had an entry pointing localhost at the IP address of some other computer on his network. Crazy. I have no idea how anything worked on his machine.

Took a while to track that was down. Was both bewildering and sort of satisfying to figure it out in the end.

We think the products are so different that people won't get confused but if it turns out to be a problem, we'll figure something out.
