What concerns me the most of this post is that it offers no clear alternatives. Are we expected to write all of the UI by hand? That's not really comparable to native development.

I would like to see a light-weight Javascript UI and MVC library that is recommended by Phonegap.

I've been trying to explain to people lately how to use Github and every time I tell them to go to "Commits" they get totally lost. Everything is the same grey bland, there are a total of about 7 navigation bars, and a lot of clutter. The fact that they get lost is a clear sign that something is very wrong.

This design is obviously a recognition of the problems and a suggestion of what could be. It's not 100% right but it illustrates the possibilities.

I'm very confident that the guys at GH know this though and I'm looking forward to what they come up with.

20/30 people on a regular router that has an IP range of 255 IPs will quite often fall over, I've seen it happen more than once.

What a bullshit post. Apple didn't invent the ads, they're already there! Look at the app store and you will find numerous apps that have free ad-supported versions. Apple is only getting in the space to make sure we get quality ads, and not ads for viagra or other annoying stuff that we really don't care about.

CakePHP is a technical disaster. if you want a proper PHP framework, try Symfony

Nice discussion. I personally use http://tipit.to because I can actually get money out of that service, making it much more interesting as an alternative to an advertisement revenue stream. Tipjoy is not free and doesn't allow you to get any money out of the service, which make it a harder sell for me.

Secondly I personally think a tip service should definitely be a very social enterprise, and I have the feel that Tipit is that a bit more, with their "pledging of tips", etc. I think you'd just have to go and see for yourself.

Well, closing an option down completely for the sake of spam-control is never a good option I believe. One should work towards a solution, not abolishment.

Well, I can imagine some differences. A powerseller wants the highest amount of profit, but someone who likes to sell his product asap to someone who is like able to pick it up TODAY has different needs.

I recently had some issues with eBay where I had to relist an item 3 times because of scammers. Why does your item disappear before the deal is DONE? Why not have ME decide when it is sold, and not the buyer?

That doesn't do anything social. Just a tool for sellers. I am talking about the once in a few months seller here that is being neglected. Powersellers get all they want from eBay.

Never said that, just said that there is no social control or value in eBay.

What patents would be a problem then? I think there is real legroom for a product that ignores the eBay sweetharts (super-resellers) and focusses more on the individual occasional sellers that use common sense and trust to make a transaction.
