This is mostly the financial sector generating revenue and shipping/receiving. There's not really a lot of actual production going on since that's what really backs the funny money you referred to as "generating GDP."

read the comments. The HN community is ecstatic. It's good to see there are a few who understand basic economics but politically, the folks here at hn are not much different than over at reddit lol

the crime here is county officials engaging in literal economic repression. It's not a matter of when the government orders whatever is says this week.

The fact of the matter is that if a business feels it's time to reopen, it should do so, cautiously of course.

Neither the employees or customers are forced to go. They have a right to refuse. They don't have a right to dictate what others decide to do with their business

over a year ago, the rapid fire, almost daily updates to their android app had given me the suspicions that their operating expenses would be too much to remain humble for long, then came the notifications and social media posts inviting me to come read the paywall articles. I'm not against paying for access with subscription, as I have a few, as well as a healthy list of creators on Patreon but I feel it's kinda like YouTube profiting massively from user generated content. I know they aren't in it for fun, just saying it's been obvious for a while now

the trick is to brush the grill before it gets hot. you can always rinse the gunk out of your grill brush but you can't un-melt the plastic that keeps the brisles attached. Give it a quick second brushing after it's heated up, if you want. Since it is already mostly clean, you don't spend as much time loosening/melting your brush. I figured this out when I found one of those bristles on some ribs I made. Fortunately, it was before I put it in my mouth.

It's normal unless you are not able to consistently overcome it to achieve your goals. Basically, like any disorder, its not technically a disorder until it prevents you from living your life.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at about 12years old. I refused treatment all through high school until I was 30 when I realized I had gotten nowhere in life. I had substance abuse problems and a criminal record.

I'm back in college now. I have hobbies, goals, and no desire to turn back. My anxiety is gone as well as the impulse to self medicate. I've gone through several state mandated drug/alcohol/anger management classes over the years, so the cognitive behavior mechanisms were there, but when I finally told a doctor my story, and how I felt, I got treatment and it changed my life.

You can't diagnose yourself and trying to is unhealthy. It manifests doubt and can make things worse by compounding negative emotion.

If you're just being lazy, grow up. But if you are unable to will yourself to do/focus on the things you want/need to do, if you feel you are "suffering," even a little bit, ask for help.

You are important. Don't waste time guessing.

that's not Android keyboard. That's Google keyboard. Solution: use a different keyboard. I've used the AOSP keyboard since I started using Android. Sure it's made by google but it does what I say rather than what some proprietary idiot robot thinks I think. While your'e at it, use the send feedback function to let them know you hate it.

Haven't used google's search engine in years. It was obvious to me back then that google products are designed primarily around googles's incentives, and the user second. SEO seems like it would be something great...if the "optimization" was in fact user-centric but it's not. I don't like being guided by algorithms and I don't really shop around for stuff online. When I search for something, it's usually for some very specific type of information. I mean I'm usually pretty sure about what exactly I'm looking for. Granted, most people probably don't use the web the same way I do so it's not like I expect them to do what they do differently. I just don't use google, and whenever I do tell someone to "google it", I'm being sarcastic and probably not in the mood to answer questions that can be answered with a few minutes at a keyboard.

Furthermore, when someone links me to an amp.whatever page, I might be in an even worse mood if I have to talk with them about it afterwards. imo, Google and facebook algorithms are half of what's causing most of the conflict and hate on the internet these days. The machines have literally taken over, and they've started with our minds. YouTube suggestions have devolved into nothing more than a rabbit hole that gets scarier the further you follow. Either they are completely out of touch with what people want or the mentality of society/humanity is way more fucked off than I'd ever imagined it could be. Until they provide actually useful and configurable settings for people who can think for themselves, I will not return to using these products.

Besides, how fair would it be for me to freeload off an ad company's services when my hosts file hasn't allowed an ad to load in my browser as long as I can remember?
