No. AiCore service internally uses the inference on Tensor (http://go/android-dev/ai/gemini-nano)

If there isn't, why not? (i.e. this isn't the first on device model release by any stretch, so I can't give benefit of the doubt at this point)

Mostly because 3P support has not been a engineering priority.

I am not talking about inventing data structures or an algorithm on the spot. It takes some amount of time to find the right data structure and the algorithm. I felt that the interviewers are not ready to give that time.

Say you have not seen a particular dynamic programming problem. It takes some time to get to the fact that there is a recursive solution to it, and then apply DP to it.

For a person who has seen that problem, it doesn't take a lot of time to write the code. While interviewing, you are compared to that person. Nobody takes that extra effort to actually appreciate somebody who thought about the problem and answered it.

For a tech industry that prides itself in hiring the best / most talented, this is ironic.

I used to believe this. As a masters student who is going to graduate soon, I have to put in months of preparation for the interviews. Nobody believes in your ability to write code even after having close to 100+ commits to a popular open source project. People expect you to come to the correct solution after 5 minutes of them asking the question.

I had this view when I was interviewing for internships during this quarter. I have spent working and interviewing at a couple of places, before I came to pursue my masters and I believed people valued coming up with the solution on the spot.

I interviewed at atleast 10 places for internships and every single of them asked one of the questions from either leetcode or cracking the coding interview. I found none of them cared whether I am thinking on my feet for a solution or not. As long as you can reproduce the answers to the questions in a nice manner, you got selected. None of my interviewers were trying to understand / empathize how difficult it is to come up with a solution really quickly when you have not seen the problem before.

The thing I learnt through the ordeal is 1. Nobody cares whether you are thinking on your feet or not. 2. You need a month of preparation going into these sort of interviews.

You can't get cops to do their jobs without a bribe. Need a passport? You're going to have cough up cash to get the paperwork you need

I and thousands of students can vouch that we did not have to bribe to get our passports.

India is doing really well in terms of law, for the population density it supports. I would bet enforcing those rules in the US or providing 911 help similar to the US for a country with that large a population is incredibly hard. Its not about will power, but the scale at which it has to be enforced at the same time, so that it works.

Agreed. I got carried away trying to make a point :).

I have been guilty of sharing the PIN in restaurants, when they don't have wireless terminals (which happens very rarely). There are a couple of reasons why I didn't feel it was a security hole.

1. All Indian cards are chip cards, hence they cannot be replicated (or not replicated quickly)

2. I get a transaction message immediately. I know exactly how much money was charged into my account.

3. My credit card cannot be used anywhere to make a transaction > 20$ without a 2 factor message to my phone.

All these security ideas are built into the system and its not opt in.

India is way ahead of the US financial system. I am a student here in US and I can't really fathom how bad the US financial system is.

- Intra bank wires / transfers are free and happen within 10s

- Cheques are free

- You don't have a system where you can lose all your money if you give your handwritten cheques to somebody (who came up with echeques anyway?)

- You don't get charged to have a checking account. They pay you interest for your account.

- Get a message about every transaction, every withdrawal that you do immediately.

I am doubly upset at that teacher now.

You shouldn't be. Wireless Technology is an advanced class for Electrical Engineering majors. Electrical Engineering majors would have gone through a class of Linear systems, where they would have learnt the intuition behind Fourier transforms as shown in OP's demo. I think the teacher might have done you a disservice by not mentioning the prerequisites, but thats the only thing you can be upset about.

Please note for Internships: We look for junior standing or above for all areas of engineering. We hire several interns every summer and fall. We aren’t currently accepting applications for summer 2016 but please check our job board in September for the job posting when we start the hiring process.

This is very interesting. I have always felt that having a language that has immutable constructs translates very well into a hardware description language. This is because most of the hardware modules are immutable, except for state machines, which can be modelled using state monads(or something similar).

Considering the hardware tooling right now, I would love to see a language with more abstractions than verilog or vhdl. I would love to see programming languages, that just don't compile to system verilog / VHDL, but can directly move to synthesizing step. I have worked with Bluespec and I don't see that as the successor.

I would say, a language like haskell(or a derivative) can map to a hardware really well, and this is a very good attempt. Please pursue it / turn it into a product, so that hacking on hardware(a FPGA) is much more easier and beautiful.

people in places like india gladly pay the $1 fee for a years access on their dumbphone.

I am in India and I have never been charged for Whatsapp. Every year, whatsapp decides to add more free months.

Also, there is significant competition in the messaging space in India, and Indians are not comfortable paying for anything other than their phones.
