Solar PV, battery technologies, and smart phone transaction systems are areas where China is playing a leading role. They are competitive in EVs and Automated Vehicles. I'm sure there are others. The US isn't even in the game any more for many consumer products.

It would meet a need in the US if restricted to low-speed roads, eg for older drivers. Maybe young drivers and low-income people too. At low speed you just don't need a lot of the fancy stuff.

Also add: - debt service related to infrastructure - higher transportation related costs, eg for school buses, fire fighting, parking related building costs But I agree Strongtown arguments tend to ignore other big cost categories.

My point is that those working to undermine or overturn democracy are using freedom to expression to undermine that very freedom. That is outside the bounds of toleration.

A case in point is Christina Bobb, who works as a propagandist for OANN under 1st amendment journalistic protections, but showed her true colors on Jan 6 by working with Rudy G and John Eastman at the Willard to overturn the election result. At that point I think she is no longer entitled to legal protections afforded journalists.

I think what is needed must run much deeper than self-suppression. It is time for us to look within and cool off within ourselves so that we can speak and act without hate.

"waiting until they are more sure" implies that they will get there in the end. But it looks like only a minority of Americans ever reaches that point. Most non-college graduates aren't getting there.
