Hah yeah cynical is fair.

It's easy for me to forget especially when commenting here (HN) that not everybody knows what they are doing and I often undervalue services which bridge a knowledge gap when I have that knowledge.

Thinking again, yes I can see the "doing one/few things very well" working during what is going to be a major shift in the market, especially with the intended end goal.

I've already ordered - who can I talk to about getting my company validated?

I'd propose the answer to that FAQ needs some sort of improvement, to appear less standoffish.

Thanks for the response, so really you're just improving a job that the CA should and could do better.

In your position I would fear that my business/model/product could be easily replaced by any other partner/reseller of a CA, or the CA themselves. Unless your intention is to build volume then either be acquired by a CA or become a CA yourself under somebody elses root?

letsencrypt.org will demolish the DV market and there's already minimal profit without extreme volumes, so lets be honest about this.

Our CA, DigiCert, does the final checks before issuing your certificate, so you should speak to them directly.

What exactly are you offering here other than reselling DigiCert?

I know there are a lot linode users here but is it really Hacker NEWS suitable? I'm not saying that I don't want to see some of the cool/interesting stuff they do, but this isn't it.

If there was a HN post every time a provider launched a new PoP we'd be swamped.

Disclosure: I work in the hosting industry.

Terrible fitness/physical stamina but I eat reasonably well.

Working in `internet infrastructure` (as a founder) my work week varies between 60+ hours per week and ~>80, that doesn't of course include dreaming about problems past or problems imminent or the false-positives in monitoring causing broken sleep.

After doing this for 8+ years and working myself into a position of financial comfort relative to my peers, I'm now questioning why I work so much and what's the point of working so much at the expense of quality of life and potentially how long that life will be if I continue to abuse my body/health.

At the same time after doing what I do for such a long period of time I find it very difficult to NOT work. I get fidgety and easily bored when having conversations (in real life rather than IRC), being able to trust in others to-do as good a job when I have cover and resisting `checking in` to see how things are doing.

I very much used to be someone who looked down on those who worked less hours as lazy and stupid, now I think they're the smartest people I know.

It's all a little bit silly.

Everyone knows 100TB can't afford you to use the included bandwidth.

When you start actually using your bandwidth then you cut into their profits and they'll want to get rid of you.

When you start actually using the bandwidth _and_ undercut their own CDN using their _resold_ infrastructure, then they're losing out twice.

It's important to remember that UK2 = OnApp/UK2/Midphase/VPS.NET/100TB/Hosting Services Inc/etc/etc. UK2 doesn't own much infrastructure, they're just a reseller and overseller.

You only mitigate attacks you don't stop them.

You either get massive uplinks (multi 10GE) and cisco nexus (or similar) or proxy/spread/diversify across multiple facilities separate to the core and only forward legit traffic (or null route targetted proxies).

For anyone considering this, it's already been exploited by people running it across 1000s of vms/processors causing massive rate fluctuations.

One to skip imho.

Different applications for EV certs will be required to provide certain additional information and all validations must pass CAB guidelines.

We personally use Comodo for our 'cheap' certificates as we get massive buy discounts and GlobalSign for EV as they've have a 2048 bit default root since the start.
