1. The point of this is it happens in real time. It starts setup with an actual working demo. Connecting it to your phone first shows that real time update 2. This is an app for developers. Developers are not scared of QR codes.

Hmm, I am the opposite. Infact, the reddit mobile site is one of the few mobile web apps I use on a daily basis.

I am surprised no one has mentioned steroids js from appgyver (http://www.appgyver.com/steroids). It's sort of a blend between titanium (native controls with a javascript api) and phonegap. That way you can write a truly hybrid app. I've played around with it a bit and I have to say that it seems like the best of both worlds. Plus the documentation and onboarding is stellar.

This is a good point and relates to what Stevenj said "As long as Mark Zuckerberg is CEO". I would add to that "and as long as he, and his collective team maintain the vision". Yahoo, over the years suffered from both of these missteps. Apple did to, and then the vision came back. We all know how that turned out.

An interesting corollary to this piece would be to ask how much time and effort is Facebook putting into increasing the Average Revenue per User number? The collective mind of Facebook is smart. They have accomplished quite a bit and it would be foolish to think they didn't start planning for a plateau in growth years ago. It really depends on how they increase that ARPU (like somehow with mobile which they currently make no revenue from). I for one would not bet against them. This talk of Facebook not being cool anymore in my mind signals something different now. They are now in essence a utility (as someone else said ubiquitous) and that is a pretty incredible place to be.

I strongly agree with this. Remember that being a good developer has as much to do with creativity and in some respects artistry as it does with algorithms (see PG's essay Hackers and Painters http://www.paulgraham.com/hp.html). The tone of this question is a bit concerning though. Why are you currently a programmer (if that is the case)? Do you enjoy building things by writing software? Do you want to solve more advanced technical problems that might require higher level Math? Or are you considering a different path because you are tepid about programming? This career, in my estimation, is something you need to have passion for. So make sure whatever you decide that part is true.

I hate it when places like Bloomberg purport to tell me what is going to happen with the rest of my career. I will be 32 at the end of this week, and you know what? I am not stopping this programming thing anytime soon. This article is written for the people that would get into our craft based on the fact that Software Engineer was just named the top job. If you love to build, if you love to create, if you love to program then you will be fine. You set the expiration date of that, not your age.

That should be possible if you do not cancel the event bubble when the overlay is shown. I did not have time to inspect their code, but I assume they are canceling the event.

This seems like an odd move. It's not like bing has any traction with developers at all. Wouldn't charging them make it even harder to gain traction? I am not familiar with thei API, what does it have over google that would make me pay for it?

I can definitely attest to IndexTank's fantastic customer service making a difference. We used the service for our startup. I remember dealing with Ignacio. Not only did he take the time to help us when we were using the free service, he took the time to look at our site (and give us a much needed ego boost by calling it a good idea). He took the time to understand the idea and figure out just what we needed. That is not going to happen with AWS...

More and more I feel like this the most important truth I can teach to my 5 year old son. I think the earlier you grasp the concept of the journey being the reward the better. It changes your perception about so many life events. School being one of them. I want my son to realize that learning is the goal, living and doing what you love.

that is a really interesting idea. With a fake camera people can see what they are supposed to avoid. With a picture of a camera, where they are unclear exactly where the camera is, I wonder how that changes things.

In our case the users have been pretty engaged. Our bounce rate is around 40% with 99% of that traffic being stumble. We started with a paid campaign and that is how we got this far. Have you had experience with running one again to further increase traffic?

I agree that this can work. However, they are very strict about collecting any sort of personal data from the MT workers. Thus you may end up not having any stick from this because you cant ask them for an email. Cellis, how did you get around this?

This is awesome. It's hard when working a full time job and attempting a startup to think that at the point where your business is your full time gig, that the freedom will allow for opportunities you can't have with a 9 - 5. May I ask what business you started?

It's really amazing when you think "I never hear about anyone that has made it, or is even trying to do this with wife/kids/mortgage..." and then someone posts on hacker news and all of a sudden, there is a support group.

Mind if I ask how successful you were? Were you able to go full time on your venture?
