I’ve been working on robotics for a few months now. I have built an arm, started receiving parts for my quadruped, and have learned enough RL to at least hold opinions on it (my background is ML/LLM training, so a bit different).

Eventual goal before I return to work next year is to have a robot I can take on walks with me that will pick up trash.

It’s a mobile platform, so saving 100 w on the CPU would make a difference. That’s the answer I tell myself, the real answer is because it would look hilarious :D

What’s the bottleneck? Once I’ve got the model and data onto the GPU my only cost is launching CUDA kernels right?

Not sure if that blog post is relevant, but even if it is it shows a 3060 gets //way// faster throughout than the igpu it is testing. I suppose I can test this myself by plugging my 3070 into the NVME on my desktop.

Does anyone have experience of putting a huge GPU on something like this and using it for inference? You'd be limited by data feeding over the NVME port, but otherwise you won't be bottlenecked right? Seems like a light weight and cute way to limit non-inference power/weight without having to pay the price of a Jetson board.

I’m originally from the UK, but it might still apply - it’s much more normal in the US to go straight to a specialist without a referral from a GP. If the company you’re moving with isn’t helpful you will probably be able to arrange directly with a GI doctor’s office with little effort.

I find it really interested to hear this sort of thing - how two people experiencing the same thing have completely different views. For context, I moved to near San Jose from Cambridge (UK) and love where I live.

I have friends in SF paying the same rent for way less space. I can drive to surf or mountain bike in 30 mins and it’s not too bad to go ski. I can keep a motorbike in my garage along with my car, and a desk and computer to hack about with electronics. I’m six miles from work and can ride a motor or leg bike to work, or drive, or get a Lyft if I’ve had some beers in the pubs that are near my office. There’s tonnes of restaurants of all sort nearby and a number of bars and restaurants 10-30 mins walk away. I can get to SF in about an hour, thought most concerts I want to see are in Berkeley which is a bit further. If even that’s not enough, I’m 15 minutes from SJC so can get to anywhere in the world about as easily as it’s possible for anyone to. Houses are low and flat, but the diversity of styles and the care put into people gardens (the smell of the flowers!) is wonderful. There are three free libraries where people have installed book shelves and benches in their front yards for people to stop by. My town has a few parks that are always full of people, and I can bike to others if I feel like it on the weekend. There’s a store for anything I want within 20 mins. Despite what the article says, towns do have a sense of there and identity, it’s just more diffuse and less obvious.

I’m not trying to take away anything from people who prefer to live in SF, but there’s a lot of us who live in the valley proper and love it here. The meme that there’s nothing of value here and fun comes to San Jose to die seems very popular on the internet.

The law is more predictable when it follows precedent, which is good since people know what it is. Precedent can be overturned in cases where the facts are different (including when things have changed over time), and the legislature can obviously make new laws.

Being bound by precedent is one thing that stops every court from legislating their own interpretation of unclear laws - it makes sure everyone at least gets the same law.

This is a key conceit - trades don't mean one is less intelligent. A great plumber is easily as intelligent as a great software dev. The left behind are the people who could provide value before, but now can't, and no amount of reeducation will solve that.

Even if the equity was taken into account most startup equity (once you read the terms and conditions) is worth ~0. There's a few bigexits warping thenfigures but the median is pretty low.

I read it that they divide by an 'index divisor' which appears to be denominated in £, leading to the FTSE being a unitless figure.

My point is that if I am right, then the devaluation is taken into account in the numerator and the denominator so cancelled and the FTSE isn't correlated with the £.
