Interesting. The Chinese devs I work with hate Kylin (probably because it's approved by the Party) and seem to really prefer other Chinese-created variants, particularly Lubuntu and Xubuntu. I've got no experience with Kylin, so it's interesting to hear these points.

Why Kylin and not Xubuntu or Lubuntu?

With that said, reputation and word of mouth is everything in China. Before an app like Didi was the king, people were changing ride share apps every month. New deals, new coupons, new rumors, etc... The tide changes really fast here. Didi just happened to be the only app that could hang in there.

Regardless of how many people there are, if 10 people online say something is not worth using, no one else is going to use it.

I regularly use version control, atom, markdown and syntax highlighting in preparing education materials.

Really appreciate your perspective. Looking forward to giving it a shot. I've found Pocket to be bloated and getting slower and slower in China, so the speed and minimal UI is really attractive to me.

Really love the UI and simplicity of adding tasks/task groups, but this app is (for some reason) a beast on my battery life. I sent you an email about this as well, but it was using well over what I had anticipated. From the OS X 10.11.4 Activity Monitor:

Came to basically say exactly this. The only people who didn't see it coming are the Chinese "aunties" who put everything in without any real knowledge of truthworthy advice. There's a lot of people who lost a lot of money in China this way. That's the danger of armchair expertise, I suppose.

The Chinese for "hello" was sort of correct. It returned 喂 on the bottom of the list, but that's really "hello?" like answering the phone, not 你好 which is actually hello. I was surprised by its selection there.

This is a great idea. I am in China, where I can load getpocket.com without a VPN. But your site doesn't work without a VPN. I can't even connect my Pocket account without turning on my VPN, and after connecting the two and creating my list, the articles can't be seen without the VPN. Defeats the point, really.

I've done the same thing with my Android but I didn't consider it all that revolutionary. I just like a clean looking phone. Using Atom Launcher I can adjust the 'dock' (around the launcher icon) to slide left and right rather than the home pages. It's a much less distracting experience.

Very skeptical of any article that begins with "The truth behind..." Also, a little annoyed by the authors misused of "underground" here -- these malls are not underground at all, and are often far more popular than the 'real' shops.
