I agree that the open office layout definitely hinders your ability to focus. My current company has an open office but about 9 empty offices that people can go into and focus if they need them. That has worked out well... people utilize those often... I certainly do.

I work at Automated Insights (automatedinsights.com) and ever since I've been there, we've had this policy. The idea is to just not abuse it. Use it when you need it and don't go on last-minute 3 day weekend vacations. Most people go on a week-long vacation once a year (usually during the Summer) and people are able to take days off for personal reasons as long as it doesn't become a habit. Everyone does a good job I think.

5 was terribly buggy, 6 had it's moments... 6 I think had less beta releases than 5, but I'm not sure I'm remembering that correctly.

An awful lot of apps I used almost everyday had major bugs with iOS 7 like rdio and some apps would just refuse to open on the beta releases.

It's a risk.

I had to read Zen for a operations research course in college. I hated that book, but I do remember the professor beating over our heads this idea of gumption.

I agree. Even for design agencies and web shops, it can be a difficult task to work on your own site sometimes with client work being the top priority. I've seen first hand web agencies basically cookie-cutting other sites that offer similar services. Which is silly, especially if they want to stand out.

Now in this case, I think you have every right to feel upset that they pretty much jacked your whole website... in some cases even the raw HTML and CSS. Some of those examples didn't even change anything and almost all used your icons.

I do agree with @robomartin though, might wanna take the nice-guy approach first and give them the opportunity to admit their wrongdoings. Good luck, your site looks kick-ass by the way.

yeah, I'm not sure that's a good way to feel out whether there's a market for a product or app. There are plenty of dev communities like forrst or dribbble where people can show off their ideas and try to gauge interest.

Write all of your ideas down... something simple. No need for a lengthy description, you'll know what you're referring to. Something like this:

- Traffic app - Weather app - Better twitter app - foursquare for dogs

If you've got them written down, one of them will eventually scream your name begging to be worked on. As for actually doing it... well... your experience with procrastination is not unique. We've all been there. Self-motivation is one of the most difficult things to achieve when you're so used to bouncing all over the place. Just sit down one night with a 6 pack and start. Don't wait too long after your idea otherwise the inspiration will wear off.
