At that size, share everything. But also share all realistic outcomes, including what failure cases might look like. It's more about earning trust than "pumping" anyone up.

Our community recently pulled together a guide for comparing different free hosting providers.

It's really a shame, given how much we've relied on Heroku free tiers to lower barriers fr all.
I'm one of the devs behind Battlesnake (https://play.battlesnake.com), and what Joy and the Coder One team are building looks awesome :)
Anything that gets more folks coding, especially at non-beginner levels, is a huge win imo. Congrats on the launch!
Bashtle Snake is one of the greatest Battlesnakes ever made.
Hey, thanks for playing! <3
Hi Hana & Josue - congrats on the launch! This looks like a wonderful product. As a developer I've built (admittedly terrible) versions of this, over and over... look forward to trying it!
This is a super interesting question to us, and to be honest we're not sure of the answer. Is it possible for a single ML snake to achieve 100% 1v1 win rate? What about 1v7?
What we've learned so far is that playing against multiple snakes, especially AI/ML driven snakes, adds an incredible amount of complexity to the game and the top ranked snakes tend switch around quite a bit as players adjust to attack/defend specific strategies.
If anyone has formal theory around this sort of problem, we'd love to investigate further.
Yeah I like something like this: "Build a bot to play the classic game 'Snake'"
Haha, yes! We actually had a "Tron Mode" at the tournament last year that just flooded the board with food to replicate light cycles.
Heroku is a really good option for beginners (and it's free!) We've got a few repos on GitHub that can be forked and deployed directly to Heroku:

Yes! I've been using Insomnia since it was a Chrome extension and the new 3.0 release is an amazing upgrade. I strongly agree with the developer that tools like Postman are quite bloated and complex for normal development tasks. Insomnia is very lightweight and refreshing!
There are actually some really interesting (and young!) startups in Victoria.
We have an office there and our team maintains a city-wide startup listing + job board:
It's really important that programs like Canadian SR&ED are being scrutinized in the context of startups, and on that theme I'm really happy to see this discussion.
I think it's more interesting to see how Canadian founders can shape these sorts of policies over the next 5-10 years, and this is a great starting point.
Is anyone using this in production? If so, at what scale?
Ah interesting. Wonder why it allowed me to resubmit...
Yep absolutely. Maybe perfectly standardized packages aren't possible, but they should (I think?) be able to offer "pretty similar" packages to all employees.
Looks great, was super fast to setup. I probably don't have a personal use case... but for work I think this would be great.
Would love to see Asana/Hackpad support soon.

We're looking for an experienced frontend web developer to help architect and lead our customer facing applications.
You'll be responsible for architecture and technical design of all user facing applications, including our primary UI (the sendwithus dashboard), landing pages, and other public resources.

We deal with very large amounts of data every day, and our systems are constantly evolving as we solve new and more challenging problems.

Email jobs@sendwithus.com to chat about either role.
This is an amazing experience and a ton of fun.
I loved being instantly put into a game. I was able to immediately recognize that I was on a team and dive face first into the battle.
Sure, the controls and hit detection are a bit flakey, but experiencing this for the first time was a lot of fun. Great job :)
Sendwithus (YC W14) - Frontend Tech Lead - Victoria BC, Canada
We're looking for an experienced front-end tech lead. We offer competitive salaries and generous employee equity.
At its core, Sendwithus is an API to send templated transactional emails. Our customers are in our web app daily, exploring analytics, handling customer support, and building new customer experiences.

To apply, email jobs at sendwithus dot com introducing yourself.
Exactly this -- openly acknowledge it, talk about it with close friends, and move on. There are bigger things to accomplish.
Very cool to see this open sourced.
Any advice on migration process? Transferring a high write-throughput postgres instance to a multi-pg deployment with pg_shard feels pretty daunting.
Is anybody using this in large production systems?
Agree with notjosh on this -- so what makes documentation good?
Cool, would love to see it if available publicly.
Awesome - what about using API Editors (or similar tools) as a way to browse or explore an API?
I've seen a lot of companies roll their own API "Explorers" too: https://dev.twitter.com/rest/tools/console https://developers.facebook.com/tools/ http://products.wolframalpha.com/api/explorer.html
As well as generic Rest API Explorers: http://www.getpostman.com/
We've been using Slack for quite a while now after trying HipChat, FlowDock, etc, and love it.
The major selling point for us is it's incoming Webhook API.
We use it to communicate deployment status, major customer events, and general fun & hilarity (/giphy).
Email Marketing is changing. It's no longer about spamming customers with "marketing BS" whenever possible. It's about sending the right content at the right time and delighting your customers.
Email (especially transactional email) should be an extension of your product, owned by creative and ambitious product teams - that's what Sendwithus enables.
It can also mean they're working closely with a small number of customers to rapidly prototype and validate early versions of a product.
