I find it hilarious nobody ever mentions texas w/r/t this issue. They already required new Large Load Interconect Studies- and paying the cost of new grid infra. And, the hufe influx of study reqiests lead to new laws introducing batching.

I will note- the actual generation is left to market economics. I have much more faith in that working out equitably than regulating the grid. Even so, they've had significant consumer level grod connection fee increases- which I think reflects the end of various easy houshold effeciency gains (eg: incandecent -> CFL -> LED, P4 -> 14th gen, and HVAC. mainly lighting) and privatized profits more than anything.

that adds a time dimenstion- not a spacial one. I'm no expert- but I'd expect a quadrf to not even need a time dimension for that case (rf transmitters are very rarely buried among noise in a spacial dimension.). my terms might be wrong, but I doubt the concepts are.

It's irrelevant. Glass is a fickle mistress- a factory defect from 20 years ago can be the nucleus for the whole pane to shatter for any reason, or no reason.

Why are you implying all datacenters are GPU farms? You can't retrofit that kind of power density into existing buildings.

You can stuff GPU servers into existing buildings- but even with significant upgrades you end up with a lot of empty space on the floor that can't be used.

You say they have a large impact, but having lived somewhere with some of the largest data centers- they very much don't. At least not more so then any other structure that paves over greenery.

For your first point- You've just repeated "shared tenant." A scaling factor that's been used since before the turn of the milenium. Uptime is, as always, an irrelevancy for personal/homelab vs cloud. It shifts from uptime to pure financial (capex first, then how you account for "wasted" time).

2) The current memory crunch is more political than cyclical. The only reason we have fabs as far intro construction as we do is CHIPS Act. Which, predates LLMs public existance by more than 6mo. the horrific silicon prices are a direct result of openAI's openly Illegal dealings. Their pretense of needing it for stargate gets sundered further with each missed or cancelled deadline.

They predicted the political and regulatory outcome superbly.
