The Opposite of Partial Functions

The part about bluetooth is all too relatable. I'm wondering if there is some other way to do wireless communication that is much less annoying to set up?

Or maybe it's because if you're well-off, there's no reason to buy an expensive villa that looks just like the one next to it. Better to buy a smaller, more tasteful house that's uniquely yours?

IMO neighborhoods with a single house design copy-pasted are really unappealing, no matter the country.

Don't be clever 3 years ago

Oh no, the conclusion is so funny. That's the problem with "magic frameworks" like ASP.NET, where it's not obvious how to extend things if need be (if even possible).

Oh, I know about the emulation layers of early computers! But I'd assume those programs rarely required frame-perfect input unlike video-games. Wouldn't that be too wasteful and needlessly limit the playerbase?

Edit: after reading through wikipedia, I think maybe a VM wouldn't be that wasteful, since the game is very simple mechanically.

I wonder how common were full game VMs in the 90s. For a game older than myself, wouldn't a VM layer incur a great performance penalty on PCs from that time?

The Uxn Ecosystem 3 years ago

uxn is one of those things I know of and read about for quite a long time, but never end up trying myself. Those "limited on purpose" community-supported systems are a really cool concept.

I'd like to imagine that anyone who uses UML today is doing it ironically as a sort of post-modern art piece.

Sorry, I just noticed this comment. I know you probably won't see this, but that's not what I meant!

What I wanted to write and the reason why I noticed the accent was not because it was bad, but because I'm also Polish, so I am especially sensitive to Polish accents (and I hate hearing myself speak foreign languages, so there's that)! The same way, for example, Swedish speakers hate hearing their own countrymen speak Swedish! I didn't mean for it to be taken so seriously!

Also, IMO, videos which are voiced by their creators sound better, more genuine. I'd honestly prefer it if you were to practice your pronounciacion just a bit more and the videos would be perfect!

Really cool topics, but wish there was a text version of those courses.

Edit: aside from the fact, that reading is much more effective for learning, hearing their Polish accent is pure agony (I'm Polish)

New TLDs: Not Bad 3 years ago

There are now 40 such TLDs: android, app, bank, chrome, dev, foo, gle, gmail, google, hangout, insurance, meet, page, play, search, youtube, esq, fly, eat, nexus, ing, meme, phd, prof, boo, dad, day, channel, hotmail, mov, zip, windows, skype, azure, office, bing, xbox, microsoft

Interesting how Google and M$ added their own TLDs (and a fairly large amount of them).

(Edit: .meme and .dad are also google, so it's all forgiven)

a strongly typed functional language would solve most of my problems

I'm at the stage where I constantly notice this, which adds to my already non-zero job fatigue. I try to keep my sanity by threatening (myself) to start my own company, but maybe I just need to stop caring and grow up...

I wonder if the increasing "lifelessness" of videogames is not only caused by the same open-world ubisoft-style formula and microtransactions, but by increasing graphical fidelity while having extremely static environments in these games.

The game world should feel like an actual world and not a diorama with extra steps.

For me as a kid, there was a huge gap between something that was free and something that was not. The difference between asking my parents for something and just getting (downloading) it.

I now have my own disposable income, but I still think long and hard in case I have to spend money; the actual price being secondary to the fact, that the thing is not free.

Kinda offtopic: I really like the main idea of this article, but the contents are really generic and feel like they were generated from the heading alone.

Generic call to AI regulation and vague statements like "undermine efforts to promote responsible consumption" - like what does that even mean?

Like the whole article is basically filler... I dunno...
