Looks great actually.

For the same reason I leave every community (namely digg and reddit), I'll have to leave this one.

Far too much politics and I get sucked right in. I find myself reading and commenting on stuff that's a complete waste of time and energy.

It's great that HN added "hide" at least. Nice way to quickly remove these politically motivated articles.

Does anyone know how to delete my account here?

edit: Just requested an account over at lobsters, but'll just lurk if I'm denied.

"Americans will die needless deaths"

when they're on long wait lists for procedures because of a glut on resources

when they no longer have access to the high quality care they once had

when there's a greater shortage of quality nurses and doctors because of diminished pay

when innovation is stifled because R&D is funded by the government

In the meantime, Americans will die needless deaths from not receiving basic healthcare

No, it's the typical appeal to emotion nonsense that got the ACA passed to begin with. Now that's going to fail before it's even completely applied.

Americans will die needless deaths

First off everyone dies. Who's not receiving healthcare right now that would be ultimately saved by the government?

Secondly let's cut the hyperbole and have a rational conversation about this.

The cons being you are fired (which probably would have happened anyways) or you are outed as a false accuser (very hard to prove in the realm of public opinion).

And probably never getting hired again, at least by any reasonably rational male hiring manager. Too much risk.

Seems a little arrogant to say most developers don't know how to refactor or do it poorly. Maybe it's true. I really can't say one way or the other because what I see is most devs believe they don't have time to refactor.

Now the German government is considering legislation that would allow social networks such as Facebook to be fined up to 50 million euros if they don’t remove hate speech and fake news quickly enough.

As an American I can't imagine being arrested for speaking my mind about a race or religion whether it's considered hate speech or not. It's just unfathomable. Thanks to our forefathers for putting free speech on such a pedestal and our government for upholding it for 200+ years.

This can't end well shutting people up like this.

German police raided 36 homes over social media hate speech

Why should that be noteworthy?

Because there's perceived ageism in this industry, so saying you're just getting started in your 30's is interesting.

Especially the kitchen with its "update"

Wow. I really expected you were exaggerating but it really is terrible. There's not much square footage why the hell didn't they put in new cabinets at least?

US will give billions if it continues to pollute. Why not stop ruining our planet instead

Completely wrong. This is why all this outrage is nonsense. Nobody took the time to read the fine points.

$100 Billion

"To help developing countries switch from fossil fuels to greener sources of energy and adapt to the effects of climate change, the developed world will provide $100 billion a year," NPR's Chris Joyce, who has been covering the climate conference, reports.

But that amount is identified as a "floor," not a ceiling.

"Developed countries won inclusion of language that would up the ante in subsequent years," Chris explains, "so that financial aid will keep ramping up over time."
