In some situations the incentives align. Same as it's desirable for Youtube, Patreon, etc to pay & attract their creators. If the users of open source project bring value to the project they should be rewarded proportionally.
I can honestly report that big majority of Nostr users are very much against "crypto". Just ask on nostr "Do people here support crypto and all the various blockchains?" and you will see for yourself.
Yeah, Nostr is quite new compared to Mastodon. The clients became usable just this year. I posted my first note on Nostr in Dec 2021 and that was literally just days after the first web client allowed posting. Mastodon has been there at least since 2016.
Nostr is quite open for what options people use to become more trustable. People can pay couple thousand sats to get a verification, or as you say Nostr can also do the same with shifting to web of existing sources of identity. E.g. it is well known that this Jack is CEO of Strike (strike.me) and so any nostr client can verify that https://snort.social/p/jack@strike.me is trustable, because it serves his public key here: https://strike.me/.well-known/nostr.json
If you use bitcoin you can make services that provide value and get paid for those online without any identity involved. That's the main value. That said it's a bit complicated to use bitcoin in a truly anonymous way without connecting identity to it at any point.
There are ways to get non-bitcoin or non-nostr content - like following hashtags (in Amethyst and other clients), for example #grownostr #F1 #beerchain, etc. Generally whatever interest you have, follow the hashtag.
Unfortunately from now on, the Mullvad Browser is the only browser you can use, ever. So you will be annoyed by this inconvenience a lot.
CBDCs are obviously evil, but I really wonder how come people don't fight more against KYC? KYC policies are truly exclusionary, they exclude literally millions of families from being able to transfer money or interact with whatever "KYC'd" services. And guess who's the most affected? How come all "inclusivity above all" folks never talk about KYC policies?

It depends on which Nostr client you use? When you click on the "Tip" button it should give you couple options, like showing lightning QR code that you can scan with any lightning wallet, opening your wallet directly, or opening the extension (Alby is the main one).

With LN you can have a private channel with your friend and do unlimited number of transactions with (literally!) 0 fees. Thanks to recent developments it's also much easier (and cheaper) to then swap those BTC to onchain - sometimes even cheaper than a comparable single onchain BTC transactions.
Between 1 to 100 satoshi usually - so fractions of a cent. (1 BTC = 100 000 000 sats)
Patreon bans podcasters sometimes, you also have to be in one of the lucky countries to be able to use it - other people are excluded. There are annoying fees that Patreon (and credit card providers) take on each transaction (afaik around 10%), so the actual podcasters get quite smaller amount compared to what you send...
Nice tutorial. It takes some work, but all that crypto stuff can be disabled in Brave and then it works really well blocking ads and trackers...
You can run a node on your phone... Node is a different thing from a miner.
Another option is that the Fed stops printing trillions of new dollars out of thin air.
At that point the employer could ask for a reduction... The situation is symmetric.
What existing solution? The point here is that no one found a good solution yet...
It requires someone running a server device. I don't think that's a good direction to take unless it's really easy to enable that within the mobile app :(
It's great that the messaging works over bluetooth and local wifi, but I really wish the phone app would be able to cache and relay encrypted messages to others.
Or does that somehow work through the posts and forums in the app?
The API doesn't even have support for Lightning.
Chivo is a "custodial" wallet, so Chivo is in charge of the funds and can block sending those anywhere if they want. From the current reports the $30 needs to be send to another Chivo to be able to spend it on whatever. After this initial back and forth, it's spendable anywhere.
Chivo has just usual Lightning node as any other, you can follow it publicly here: https://amboss.space/node/02f72978d40efeffca537139ad6ac9f099... and you can see that they have direct channels with IBEX and others, so payment to many businesses from Chivo can literally be done with 0 sats fee. IBEX then has channel with OpenNode, so when paying to McDonalds there's a chance that IBEX will take some fee.

Then maybe as a customer I would buy from the seller that doesn't have the high fees. As soon as one business chooses to use the "cheaper and faster" option, then all other businesses sort of have to too, unless they want to be out of business.
Maybe you should actually check the blocks. If your transaction pays fee 5 cents it would easily get included in the mined blocks. Often immediately.
As I mentioned, if people are using wallets or exchanges that set the fee higher, that's their fault. They are stupidly overpaying and that's why average is high.
Since mempool is currently empty, the blocks include transactions with 1 sat/vB. For average transaction with 140vB that would be 140 sats, which is currently ~0.05 USD.
Transaction fees are 5 cents in the last couple days. The mempool is empty (see https://mempool.space/). If you are paying more, then that's an issue with the exchange or wallet that you are using.
