It's silly to think that 'AI apps' must look like the enterprise, centrally-managed SaaS that we are used to. My AI apps are all bespoke, tailored to my exact needs, accessed only via my VPN. They would not be useful to anyone else, so why would I make them public?

I used to be a big admirer of Matt and Automattic, but after this whole WP Engine episode I've lost respect. I shut down my old wordpress blog, still working on importing the posts as org-mode files onto my new site, I no longer recommend WP to non-techies that ask me how to build a website.

I hope WordPress (and Automattic) turn the ship around but its not looking good at this point.

1-3 are features. Keep chat messages short. Use git or NFS for sharing files. 4 can be solved by putting the server behind a VPN that does better (2FA) auth and then custom NickServ backed by your auth

I don’t want searchable chat, I want my coworkers to write actual documentation. Ephemerality is a feature in this case.

IRC is still my favorite chat system even if my close friends have moved on to fancier systems like discord and Zulip and slack.

If I could set technical direction in a company we’d use only IRC and email. Maybe mumble.
