Isn't that a false dichotomy? Large organizations can have organizing principles other than profit at all costs. The groups of people that comprise these organizations just choose not to.

I think so. If you click through to the videos you see it is all done on a phone. Seems like it would be hard to be fast without tactile feedback. The phone is just a demo of part of the concept.

It depends how on the deal is structured. Public money flows to private hands to fund research. If the research pans out, does any of the profit flow back to the public? Typically not.

It is interesting to think about these trans-national corporations fighting wars and then signing peace treaties. Used to be only nation states did that.

If you grew up true middle income or poor in the US it is extremely hard to value equity as an adult. Then, if you manage join a company that offers equity, it can be a mental struggle to buy your options even though you have plenty of cash on hand.

Perhaps this is regional but I strongly disagree that ford doesn't have strong brand identity in trucks. Wars have been fought over Ford v Chevy in parts of Texas :)

Does the cost in maintaining/paying for hub airports factor into why airlines are regional? For example southwest has service over most of the US because they use the older/cheaper airports vs United has hubs that don't heavily overlap with American. I don't see the parallel with ride sharing here.

I disagree. Companies that start with a monolith then face an exceptionally difficult task of 'moving to micro services' because they need that architecture to support team growth. This task amounts to replacing the engine of a running car.

I agree in general the tools are lacking but if you use AWS,GCP, or w/e you get a huge boost on the tooling.

UPS/FedEx drivers make decent salaries. I wonder how much base pay impacts desire to steal obviously valuable packages. For a Walmart employee the pay is much lower but they will end up with the same knowledge of where/when packages arrive.

You get to leave all the friction of creating new ideas in a large org behind. The price seems incredibly steep vs just creating a company that is friendly to new ideas (of course creating such a company is no easy task).
