I have always thought this. The fundamental way this is discussed today (taxation as a punitive measure) rather than celebrating the contribution to society titans of industry make when they pay their taxes.

I think it's pretty reasonable to bet on people being incredible stupid and stuck in their ways; concluding that we have a better chance of innovating out of it than changing human behavior is a pretty worthy hedge.

This is stupid af because there are plenty of other countries with similar incentives & similar levels of corruption who don't have this problem. This sort of low-effort "lol everything bad" adds nothing to the discourse.

I do not understand why this comment is getting votes. The doomer perspective alone should be disqualifying... While we can't completely prevent any climate change, we have already significantly bent the curve and our efforts now are important - 2 degrees warming vs. 4 degrees is incredibly material.

That's nice. I have a baby. I don't want to be exposed to unvaxxed people at the office and risk bringing that home to my baby.

It's a thought, I suppose, but the science is in on the vaccines. It's not in on the case you're talking about, and given the safety & availability of the vaccine it's an easy call.

Republicans think it's a wedge issue, so they're happy to distract from real issues and ruin trans people's lives.

Being a do-er... what a nice, simple, seemingly intuitive concept.

I grew up in a rich area; all of my friends (even the screwballs) are in white-collar jobs, they are all "senior this" and "lead that". I'm 30. Even the people who were serious screw-ups, getting in trouble, drugs, rehab, etc. are doing relatively well - they just had unlimited re-tries.

On the contrary, my wife is from a relatively poor area. Most of the people she knew are poor, have a number of kids, and are just struggling to make ends meet in blue collar jobs.

I don't think my rich kids group had "the ability to DO THINGS". They just had every advantage & their failures were just setbacks in a nearly inevitable path to success.

The more simple explanation would probably be "a person doing this doesn't have a firm grip on reality, and might be a suicide risk"

I never cease to be surprised when an otherwise intelligent person lays judgment on something they likely do not understand. At larger companies, these types of roles are invaluable. I'm going to charitably that this isn't referring to product management - it's dumb either way though.

I just keep a running document with all my meetings, notes, etc. and when I need to pull things out into a more focused document, I do so. It's worked pretty well.

That's because it's exhausting to debunk idiots & those operating in bad faith (often both); it takes several orders of magnitude more work to respond and debunk that unicorns don't exist than it does to post that they do.

This is not true; a) more rural states have a much easier time with covid and b) blue states started off being hit the hardest, but red states are now catching up because their governors are incompetent
