If new features in any product/service aren't defaulted to 'on', no one will ever use any of them. Normal people don't change settings. As long as you're notified of the change (which Disqus did through email and blog posts) and it's not a privacy concern, I think 99% of companies will and should do exactly what they did in this situation.

Wow. So many people with an ungodly number of open tabs. Think you guys need to check out Instapaper and a bookmarking service such as Diigo. You'll be much happier and both you and your computer will be much more productive.

It's Apple's platform, they can do what they want with it. The market (including consumers, developers, and entrepreneurs) will decide whether their rules are good things or bad things. Long term, if Apple doesn't continue to foster development on its platform the developers will leave and then (eventually) the customers will follow.

I actually got rid of a bunch of 3.5" floppies I had in the back room of my house this weekend. Despite feeling pretty silly about it, I still took the time to make sure to actually tear them up rather than just dump them in the trash. Who knows what 1.44MB of data could do from my 1997 MS Money file.

Exactly. I don't want the people I was forced to add out of workplace social norms to know they're in a "Work - Others" group that gets to hardly see anything I do.

These are MY social circles, why should they have to be relevant to anyone other than me.

PayBuyer appears to be an ad network. In other words, the guy could care less about Android and is just mad that AdSense/AdWords dominates.

It's funny that supporters of RIM have taken it seriously without doing 30 seconds of research.

Maybe you're doing it wrong? Why don't you put out more effort and make it fun. Or find something else where you are willing to do so. (I am a former high school teacher.)

The problem is the $$$ plot point. Grade school teachers (in the US) are not well paid. Which is why it attracts the lazy people instead of the ones who would actually put out the effort needed to properly educate our youth. (Not meant to be an indictment of all teachers, just the "bad ones".)
