I don't understand why it's potentially so dangerous to try it out on your own. Fasting is kinda natural. Assuming you go back to the roots and live in the forest. You are not going to eat every day... so why is it suddenly so dangerous? Some explanation on the risks would have been helpful.

It's not up to the masses. There is so much going on in the world, that it became impossible to deal with everything and have an opinion on everything. So it's actually up to a as large and diverse group as possible, to oppose movements like this. Which ultimately results in just a few making decisions for the masses. You can try to solve this problem before or just demand that the once/few in charge right now do the right thing. But it's not up to the masses and it has never been.

Slightly off topic but it happened so often in the past, that apple products would be ridiculed on launch. Now the same people who complained how Apple is not making computers for them anymore are thinking of "cool" ways to hack the touch bar.

i actually don't think the Go version is bad. I can very clearly see what is happening and I can also do something with the error

It might have been due to "Copyright and Trademark Infringement". The article used some pictures that author clearly found on google images

I guess you can also look at ketosis as a state. Maybe paleo diet even gets you from time to time into ketosis without really intending to do so.

What I also wanted to say is that you can find sources for carbs in the paleo diet... especially if you do sports (and you did it actually as you mentioned)

The hunger mood 10 years ago

That is one reason for sure, but there are also cultural reasons. e.g. romanian culture basically encourages overeating.

I don't understand what exactly he did with the data and how the calculations indicate weight loss/gain.

Can someone explain, please?

I kinda have to agree. But I also have to add, that it's actually the combination of fat and carbs.

As a vegan you are probably eating almost no fat and this is most likely the reason you lost weight. If you would start eating higher amounts of vegetable fats... maybe even some sugar (pure carbs) you will gain weight.

One thing. Paleo has nothing to do with Ketosis. While meat and vegetables are encouraged and are the basis of the paleo food pyramid, carbs like from sweet potatos, honey, vegetables with higher amount of carbs and nuts are considered paleo.

You can argue about what is paleo and what not, but carbs are considered totaly fine as long as they come from a good source.

So if you did paleo and ended up in ketosis you probably did something wrong in regards to the paleo idea.

I have to ask: Why cars? Why are Google, Tesla and now Apple supposedly investing in cars?

From the European point of view cars seem to be a dead end. More and more people live in an urban area and more and more young people use public transportation way more often, than cars. Additionally carsharing makes owning a car in a german city kinda obsolete.

So... why cars?

I believe it is relevant. The West is sticking it's nose into many places around this world. But the response is not always the killing of civilians. Take South America for example. Their answer is much smarter, because their approach is different. I think the middle east approach is tainted by some parts of the islamic ideology.

This is not to say, that I agree with what the west is doing. I think "what goes around, comes around" applies here very well...

First of all not everyone is suited for remote work. Remote work often means working from home (co-working space maybe) which makes it rather difficult to engage in social activities. While co-working spaces might make it easier it's still more difficult. Also not everyone has the self-discipline and while you might argue that people also go to the office and browse HN all day others feel more motivated working in an office. Additionally the communication is way different. Emotions get lost in Chats and Skype calls. Last also due to bad audio quality.

Yes remote work can be good and advantageous for some, but it can also be bad.

...and still it looks and behaves like we are in 2002.

Don't get me wrong, I like and use Thunderbird but sometimes I wish they would put more effort into improving the UI

I get it... mobile is big, but what is the reason to not invest any time into the look and feel of the regular version?

Why are the mobile versions (Windows) looking so nice, displaying cover art... and the OS X version looks like from the 90s

I would really like to ditch iTunes, but iTunes is just nicer and easier to manage.

Apart from that... I love you VLC :)

Edit: What The F*???!! I just googled out of curiosity for screenshots of the windows version: http://www.neowin.net/news/new-vlc-windows-8-screenshots-sho...

When is this going to come to OS X?

Even if there weren’t a competitor in the picture, countries historically don’t do well with declining growth, and so it’s in our interest to try to continue to keep growth up. It’s our standard advice to startups, and it works for organizations at all levels. Things are either growing or dying.

Actually it's time to rethink this "wisdom" that was introduced by our grandparents. There is no such thing as infinite growth and only by seeing this, the West (actually I don't care about the USA so much, as I'm from Europe) is going to prosper. Because in no-growth there lies a different kind of growth and a lot of opportunities for those who can think out of the box.

Right now growth is measured in money, but maybe one day it's going to be trust or influence.

Actually a lot of the services that are now "big" existed already for a long time.

I still can't believe that back in 2001 we have been building something like a german Netflix.

Also my colleague who sat right next to me thought it would be a great a idea to have something like youtube for music in 2002 (Soundcloud) And he actually had a working service but he gave it up :)
