100% this. I have severe issues personally reading dark-themed sites to the point where I just have to give up on many sites that are locked as dark only, or require a login or clicking an obscure button to change a theme preference which I can't locate.
No, it's incredibly difficult to style Mastodon beyond minor CSS additions via the admin panel. If you really want to change anything substantial you need to fork the entire project.
I lost all parental credibility the day my kid learned that I used to use "Black Rose" as a BBS alias back in the 90s.
I can't read dark themed stuff at all for any length of time, and my tolerance is getting worse as I get older. More and more sites seem to be going dark by default and many don't offer any way to switch it off.
If there's an exact opposite version of this extension, I'd love to see it. I've even tried looking quite recently, but any search for terms like dark/light theme tend to throw up nothing but results for making things dark, not light.
Tranquility Reader helps a lot, but I'd like something that focused more on colours than style, leaving the page design mostly intact.
From an Australian perspective, the USA can look like a place where the earth might suddenly turn to jelly and knock your city down, or giant wind vortexes could descend from the sky and carry you away - things which seem more terrifying to me than a few animals I can easily avoid.
I kind of assume those things are blown out of proportion in media much the same way our wildlife is.
In your account Preferences, under "Other" there's a checklist where you can specify what languages you want to see on timelines. If you don't select any, there's no filtering.

It's still primarily on Facebook, unfortunately, but the forum is starting to finally gain some momentum as well. Lots of information on the project in there.

This is exactly what I do - I use Conversations and biboumi to idle in a bunch of channels for various projects I'm watching.
