There have been a few times where I found Google's AI mode useful. But most of the time I just want regular search results.

I'm among the people who finally moved to DuckDuckGo as my default. And for the occasional time when I want some AI mode I know how to get to Google.

When I was working at Microsoft I got transferred over to GitHub for awhile and someone there noticed my ID and made a big deal out of me having a 4-digit ID. :)

I play viola, and usually it's only the cello suites that are played on viola. But I fell in love with the sonatas and partitas. They're just incredible. The only one that I ever learned fully and performed was the second partita. Of course, on viola you have to play them down a 5th but they still work beautifully and sound great.

I think what's almost shocking about this is that Google seemed so great in the beginning. "Don't Be Evil" was even like an internal code of conduct slogan or something.

I never worked there and have no inside knowledge of what happened. Did they get taken over by MBAs who gained control of the company? Was it always evil and we were just misled the whole time? Something else?

How does elixir_pack work? Is it bundling BEAM to run on iOS devices? Does Apple allow that?

Years ago I worked at Xamarin, and our C# compiler compiled C# to native iOS code but there were some features that we could not support on iOS due to Apple's restrictions. Just curious if Apple still has those restrictions or if you're doing something different?

I have a 2018 Model 3 and your description of BYD is exactly how I would describe my Tesla. It feels cheap and plasticky and it creaks. I also briefly had a Model 3 rental car that was newer than mine (but I don't know what year it was) and it also felt the same.

I'd love to be able to configure it to use OpenAI API but with a custom hostname. I found some comments in a forum about how to configure that, but they were pretty old and didn't seem to work anymore.

They're also difficult to cancel. They gave me a student discount for using my .edu email address, but after awhile I realized I wasn't really using it so I tried to cancel. They work really hard to make that difficult to do.

I find calendars to be interesting projects for some reason. I built one for a personal project recently using Phoenix LiveView and have really enjoyed it a lot.

That reminds me of going to a .NET meetup kind of thing at the Microsoft office in Dallas once many years ago, and I came in my Mono t-shirt and my Thinkpad with GNOME and Mono stickers on it. Joseph Hill spots me and comes over to introduce himself. His first words were, "You look like a man on a mission!" :)

Joseph was so cool. There was some guy at Microsoft who was hosting the event, and he was kind of a dick. He kept trying to make jokes about Mono, but most of the people at the event didn't have any idea what Mono was so the only people who knew what he was talking about were me and Joseph.

I feel like the rights set forth in the Declaration of Independence are not really what this is all about. The US isn't saying you can't write derogatory things about it online, so it's not denying any rights. But non-citizens don't automatically have a right to enter the country, correct?

Model 3's system is better than other cars I've owned, but not as good as what I think CarPlay can be. The only advantage of my Model 3 vs the rental cars I've used with CarPlay was that Model 3's screen is bigger and nicer and so the maps look nicer and I can have music info/controls on screen at the same time as maps. But both Apple and Google navigation is a lot better than Tesla's navigation. I also use Apple Music and was initially excited about getting integration into Tesla, but I continue to just use it through my phone instead so it ended up not mattering. The one thing I hate about Tesla's system is the semi-frequent UI changes. A moving car with a touch screen is not the place where I want to have to re-learn some aspect of a UI after I get a system update.

I have a Model 3 right now and like it well enough I guess, but I think next time I get a car my ideal is to get a non-Tesla EV that has CarPlay. My hope was that Tesla has pushed the industry enough to start making competitive EVs so that I don't have to get another Tesla. And I think I would prefer using CarPlay. I've used it a couple times in rental cars and really liked it. The screens are smaller and less nice than Tesla's, but the navigation on Tesla kind of sucks compared to Apple and Google and I think that's more valuable to me.

My wife and I use WeChat because her family lives in China and we want to be able to chat and do video calls with her. If Secretary of Commerce declares that WeChat is illegal that is going to put an enormous strain on my family.

It fits pretty neatly with components in LiveView, so for the sake of the default generators it makes sense to include. It's super simple to remove it and write components however you want though.

I feel similarly, except for the AlpineJS part. I think PETL is fantastic and I would 100% choose that for my stack.

Me too. Overall I had a pretty good experience in college and grad school and I kind of miss those days. It was easier to make friends, it was easier to get exercise without even trying just from all the walking I did everywhere, and I guess I just always had this optimistic view of the future back then. :)

I wish I could get this guy to take a great photo inside my viola for me!
