The biggest breakthrough here is the FDA's acceptance of basket studies-- claiming that they would approve drugs on it alone. That's a big win for patients, who based on current practices, would have found themselves in the control group.

Was down for bit, then back, now down again. Weirdly, it looks like you can post tweets, and they go live, but it's unclear whether other members can see them.

People are missing the point that there isn't an actual sim card now, that you don't get the "apple" convenience AND the ability to pop in some random carrier's. It's convenience at the cost of flexibility.

We're at a slippery slope where we'll simply need more data points to better assess identification of medical predispositions based on gene analysis. Unfortunately, the negative externality that forms, and the one referenced when things like "should be" is said, pertains to patients' responses to this additional information. We don't even have enough data to full reflect on how patients are reacting to this information.

Right now, most medicine is reactionary-- confirming suspicions when patients are presenting x symptoms. These tests, however, hope to be predictive, and like many predictive aspects of life, will have associated confidence intervals. People, especially with regards to their own health, will have a hard time factoring in these odds when presented additional information.

That's a great point about the in-flight magazines. I wonder if there's an substantial return on those, and if so, if any airlines would maintain the current policy in attempts to keep people engaged. It'd be interesting to see if some airlines adopt a more lax policy sooner than others.

I'll find this even more useful in short, 1-hour type flights. Out of the whole flight, you usually only get ~30 mins at altitude to pull out your tablet or laptop.

To some extent yes, but advances have got to the point that spatial separation isn't nearly the handicap it used to be. Take Apple manufacturing for instance. They hardly ever carry an excess inventory.

I also latched onto the Lean Startup genre and didn't immediately understand the programmer/web architecture distinction. Also, in the subtitle blurb you say, "Startup Founders Open Up About Web Architectures In The Early Days." That made more sense to me after I read the rest of the page, but it might be helpful to point out they're discussing "their web architectures." At first, I thought the book was about the history of web architectures.

This could have been boiled down to:

People don't spend very much time reading job abs. They focus on title, company, and salary. Additionally, companies could be clearer in their descriptions.

This sounds like common sense, but throw a heatmap tracking where people look and it's news.

They're hardly free in this model. That's one of main points in the article. The creator of said MOOC charges a licensing fee for their usage. The smaller institutions see this as a slap in the face as they're then essentially expected to give more money to the already wealthier institutions.

Great example of the old adage: you'll never know if you don't try. Interesting title as it's slightly misleading at first, but ultimately truthful.
