We build many of the new products Cloudflare releases (like Workers and 1.1.1.1) in Austin. I'm looking for a product manager, or an engineer who would like to become a product manager, to work on many of our developer-facing products. You will have a lot of responsibility, a lot of ownership, and the ability to have an impact on how people build things on the Internet.

Consumers are just as bad at predicting the future as everyone else. Market research is great for making iterative improvements or learning what people are frustrated with, but it's data, not knowledge, and definitely not prognostication.

I really don't get why he doesn't just carry a reliable GPS tracker with him. Seems so much easier than arguing with people online.

Truthfully, if Europe ever did develop a reusable rocket, one that could fly all the missions in a year, this would be unhelpful politically. What would the engine and booster factories sprinkled across Europe do if they built one rocket and then had 11 months off? The member states value the jobs too much.

It feels incredibly short-term to me. How many jobs will be created by opening up spaceflight at 1/100 the cost? How many new types of satellites, technology, human transport will be created?

This proposal is generally for sites which are behind an edge network like Cloudflare. In that case your remote IP is the IP of the provider, not your actual server.

Can you help me understand how this is different than Cloudflare's offering [1]?

Another alternative is to deploy to S3/Cloudfront using Stout (http://stout.is).

I believe the founder has a controlling interest. The board can't do much without her say so.

It's all very clearly spelled out in the document. They are going to operate them in low earth orbit, each satellite covering a small area.

The SpaceX plan puts the satellites in low earth orbit, much closer than the geosynchronous satellites you can connect to now. That lowers latency into the 25-30ms range. There will also be many more of them, and presumably they are being built with the understanding they will need to support the bandwidth requirements of the Netflix-era of internet usage.

The Dodge Ram is still available in manual.

The car sales environment makes it particularly hard to buy a manual car these days. Even for cars which are still made in manual like the BMW 340i and the Nissan Juke, it is impossible to find a manual version on a dealership lot. I don't know if it's because they acknowledge they're harder to sell, or because they don't like people test driving manuals, but either way you will be ordering your car if you want it as a stick. That generally corresponds to a 6-10 week wait for your car, which doesn't align well with an American public who want their car today.

The site is currently reporting an "Error establishing a database connection." If at all possible, please try to make simple content sites like this static using a tool like Netlify or http://stout.is. Static sites are faster, more reliable and cheaper to operate.

This is just not true. When a VC invests, they are betting this company will aggressively grow in value. All do some amount of due diligence. Clearly in some cases, not enough.

Not just that, but RideAustin is a non-profit and mimics virtually every feature of Uber. I seriously wonder if non-profit versions of the business will expand into other cities and challenge Uber and Lyfts margins.

To be fair, being enthusiastic and positive about the future isn't that useful of a comment. There is only one way to say 'Elon's vision is right and it will happen,' but there are countless, interesting, ways to point out how it might fail. So after the first few excited comments come in, often the only novel thing to contribute is a counter point.

This doesn't mean that the majority of people aren't optimistic about the future, just that their opinion has already been expressed.

Just to clarify, the position you have is you should only be able to be fired for your actions, not your beliefs (however widely communicated)?

And, as an extension, the beliefs of it's members should never be taken to be the beliefs of an organization?

Can you give some more explanation of why?

- There is a difference between who you vote for, and you you vocally campaign for. He spoke at the convention, he didn't just share his views.

- You have a right to say anything you want, but that doesn't mean you can't be fired for it. If Thiel agrees with Trump, and Trump is counter to the values of YC, maybe Thiel isn't right for YC. He's in a position of advising companies, probably sometimes privately, how does YC know his advice aligns with their values?

Conversely:

- We don't definitively know Trump has done anything more than be a bombastic creep, so anyone comparing supporting him to supporting Hitler or Stalin is going a little far.

These seem great, but I truely think the biggest thing they could do would be add a line at the top of the page encouraging people to visit /newest. The content that actually makes the front page is somewhat random. I've seen the same thing posted several times, only to have the third posting be on the front page all day. Its also true that much of the content which does make it there is gamed by people who have their friends upvote. Getting more organic votes to new traffic would make that much harder.

I don't think anyone is saying modern runners are genetically different than historical ones. Of course the difference is in how they're trained.

That's a really horrible thing to say. They presumably worked hard to help people connect. I'm sorry if you don't like their selection criteria, but people meeting and interacting in the real world is better than them not, no?

If you would like to start a competitor which helps bridge 'elitist' to 'non-elitist' please do, until then, please don't hate on someone's attempt to make their part of the world better.

It's 100% irrational. We just didn't evolve to exist in a world with refined sugar at every street corner. We aren't equipped to make good decisions about it easily, it is a constant battle between our long-term decision making and our natural quest for easy to digest energy.

Can you give some example meals you eat?

It absolutely does not have the same flavor, no artificial sweetener does. But if you decide to not have sugar, you can grow to enjoy it in a different way. For me, for example, regular Coca-Cola is just non-existant in my world at this point. I drink Coke Zero, and I like it. I'm sure the sugar full version tastes better, but I've decided that's just not an option for me.
