I never really understood the concept of small teams. Managing a small team really does not provide the scale and benefit that a medium to large team does. Lost bandwidth of manager of said small team or extra salary of the same manager seem like something the company could use in other places.

But often such teams in faang come up as a by product of someone’s empire building and that is unfortunate for others involved in it.

can someone tell me what are some common use cases of such a tool? may be i'm not the intended customer base, but am curious to know what others are using it for.

it's a third of the price to begin with. I think readwise has a winner in reader app, but they sure do charge a premium for the same. You can get the same functionality in linkwarden or pinboard for a fraction of readwise's subscription pricing.

here is an idea, curious what others think of this:

split the entire coursework into two parts:

part 1 - students are prohibited from using AI. Have the exams be on physical papers than digital ones requiring use of laptop/computer. I know this adds burden on corrections and evaluations of these answers, but I think this provides a raw answer to someone's understanding of concepts being taught in the class.

part2 - students are allowed, and even encouraged to use LLMs. And they are evaluated based on the overall quality of the answer, keeping in mind that a non zero portion of this was generated using an LLM. Here the credit should be given to the factual correctness of the answer (and if the student is capable of verifying the LLM output).

Have the final grade be some form of weighted average of a student's scores in these 2 parts.

note: This is a raw thought that just occurred to me while reading this thread, and I have not had the chance to ruminate on it.

not if your investors see release of at least one new model every 'x' months as a necessity. but anthropic has definitely warded off that fate so far.

i think it comes down to:

this is what happens when the leadership wants you to ship something "good enough" out the door in a fear to not fall behind in whatever race they have conjured up in their minds.

this product on some levels, when looked at in isolation, feels as useless as did Rabbit's R1. However, Microsoft is a ginormous corporation, and hence can keep on throwing releases like these at the wall hoping something stick. The leaders will never learn, and I am sure, despite all the good points raised in this article, this release will be or is already being celebrated as a success within the internal circles.

interesting you bring developed countries and not developing countries into the picture here first. Is it because such large scale disasters like the cyclones you mention tend to hit US more than any developing nations?

I ask because I hypothesize that the impact of these raising temperatures will be seen more widely and adversely in parts of developing countries given their population density and inability to address the same.
