The transition from being the sole architect of “my” project into more of a maintainer, organizer, director, has been a unique experience and interesting to reflect on.

There’s also Django channels which is pretty sweet for certain tasks, especially websockets.

I use a combination or channels and celery for a few projects and it’s works great.

Saying everything is a CRUD app is a reflection on the level of abstraction a developer usually works in.

Someone who worked more in embedded systems may say something like “everything is ‘just’ a state machine.”

The problem is we’re in an age of mass disinformation that makes any claim potentially propaganda. It comes down to trust and belief and those things are either easier than ever or harder than ever depending on media you consume and common sense.

I think it’s allowed me to spend more time being an architect and thinking about processes, problem solving. To put it another way, I’m still a developer, possibly to a higher degree (because I can spend more time doing it), and less of a coder.

I also use next and use the pages router. Makes for a development friendly react front end.

And I have some use cases where I want to have a headless crm/api “hidden” behind the front end. So in these cases using next as a backend proxy works well for me.

Funny. This is exactly how I use it too. I love to make a ui change prompt and switch to the browser and watch hot reload incrementally make the changes I assume will happen.

Does it consume your website to test with? Run js and use layout and positioning into account? What about local websites under development?

If it’s something simple, I’ll use Django template because it’s very easy. Most stuff I work on these days requires more fancy ui so I’ll 100% use react or nextjs for front end (and I’ve be using zustand for state management). I’ll have an api util that uses axios and handles appending a jwt auth header to all requests and use that in my components. I like using Django-all-auth because it makes integrating email/google/microsoft auth really easy out of the box.

DRF is good, ninja is a little more light weight and flexible so it really comes down to the project.

From my limited use of figma, everything starts from a template. I think this is a core part of adoption.

This reminds me of Amazon fire’s kids program.

It’s absolutely worthless to whitelist content when the default “age appropriate” filters have thousands of content that need to be blacklisted one by one and then new ones are added all the time.

I even built a chrome extension that loops over them to disable but they just keep coming.

I’m senior developer on a feature bloated civil engineering web app that has 2 back end servers (one just proxies to the other) and has 8k lines of stored procedures as the data layer and many multi k line react components that intentionally break react best practices.

I loathe working on it but don’t have the time to refactor legacy code.

I have another project that I am principal engineer and it uses Django, nextjs, docker compose for dev and ansible to deploy and it’s a dream to build in and push features to prod. Maybe I’m more invested so it’s more interesting to me but also not waiting 10 seconds to register and hot reload a react change is much more enjoyable.

As a hobby, I have a 3d printer and tiny cnc mill and design my own models using openscad, blender, Houdini.

idk what your revenue is. I could be way off base, but I dont think hobby makers are going to be very interested in a subscription model (or $5 per generation). Its cool, but they'll flock to open source stuff or "bring your own AI model" kind of free tools (since those are usually cheaper and more configurable).

While I think the concept is really cool, I instantly think that majority of users are hobbiest individuals who don’t want to pay. Are you finding traction?

I definitely notice an increase in local (my backyard) mosquito activity if I accidentally leave standing water around. So I can see this working.
