Not really the ETFs are generally backed by the actual securities they represent. They may deviate from market value a bit intraday, but those deviations are picked up by special arbitrageurs and quickly eliminated.

Vultr is at $2.50 a month for 512mb ram which is plenty for a side project. As for your tech stack you'd use Linux of course but as for programming language it's your preference.

I think my current favorite stack would be node + mongo + vue for a side project. Sure people hate mongo for big projects, but it's just so stinking convenient.

Interestingly he basically lists some potential problems with doing it, but says he thinks the pros of offering free internet to people are worth the cons. For some people, the argument works, but I think the risks are too great. People download illegal stuff so often that I wouldn't want to risk sharing my ip with someone like that. If you are a coffee shop you will easily be able to show that it was probably a connected user. But as an individual, you'll have a much harder time proving it was the guy who used your free wifi.

Secondly he makes the argument that his computer should be secure anyways, which I think indicates a poor understanding of how computer security works. No matter how well he configures his system, there will always be undiscovered bugs in his OS. Having multiple layers of security makes it significantly safer

The supreme court is unelected, and are the supreme authority in this nation, above president and congress. the solution is simple - make the supreme court stand up to elections.

America has had atrocious decisions from the supreme court. In Dred Scott, they said black people have no rights because they are black. In Roe v Wade, the abortion laws of 47 states were struck down by 5 oligarchs. No matter what you believe about black people or abortion, it isn't right that 5 unelected people should determine the fate of a nation, able to overrule every state and federal law with no consequences.

This is misleading article like the guys who show you optical illusions and then say you can't trust what you see. The fact is that it is rational to let past experiences affect you. Of course here people are told their past was a lie - but they weren't given any additional facts about what is right now. It was still pure conjecture as to how well they did.

I think this is a very poor conclusion, an article by a professional journalist who just is trying to make money by posting something dumb. It's obvious why people are "irrational". There is so stinking much information in the world, not to mention the pressure our own minds put on us in the form of wants and needs. We have to sift through that to make decisions. The fact is irrationality comes from not sifting through the information correctly which is a difficult task that takes time and training.

There are all kinds of reasons we don't sift through information correctly, and as machine learning shows that takes time. Plus we often have pride which keeps us from acknowledging the truth.

The of course even if we have the facts sometimes it is difficult to make predictions based on those facts. This is in my opinion often because we don't really understand the facts. The only way to make predictions is based on past experience of some sort. If you don't understand the past well you can't make a good prediction, so once again it comes down to not understanding the huge amount of info in the world.

I've seen benchmarks showing the 95w number is very unrealistic and that it actually uses more like the Intel processor under certain loads

I learned how to code c++ in middle school because my dad had a great rule: you can only play video games you create, except for 1 hour on Saturday.

It was a brilliant rule, and I had a blast learning to code. I didn't end up playing my pong game too much. But I learned an amazing life skill which now pays my bills. And the feeling of creating my own installable program was way better than any video game

You want these companies to profit. If they don't profit they won't build out infrastructure. I think you should be much more grateful to ISPs for the service they provide instead of angry for chargin what is in your opinion too much

It bugs me when people obsess over equality, and not the standard of living. Today's poor have it better than kings in many ways. Running hot water, air conditioning, much more.

If people would stop coveting what everybody else has, society would be much better off. Instead of saying "he has more than me" say "I have enough for my needs".

The commies obtained "equality" but did standard of living improve? No many people starved, and millions were murdered. They depended on the west for their very food. Now China is becoming less authoritarian and is able to grow.

CO2 is a natural element that is everywhere. To stop producing it requires never driving anything but an electric car, never flying a plane, and using energy from only "green" sources. That is just not a transition the world can make over night. Doing so would decimate economies, and people would probably end up starving. Currently gasoline is by far the most efficient way to store energy on a small scale. but if people couldn't drive tractors where would the food come from? If people couldn't drive trucks how would food be transported?

I'm time people will solve these problems. However it's best not to worry because co2 is a natural element that the environment naturally soaks up. I don't think CFCs are naturally absorbed either

In general money makes the world go round. It takes a lot of very smart people working very hard to innovate. That's only going to happen when there is a lot of money. So I'm not against profit in the medics industry. Without profit, I think cures would come out much slower becuase smart people would move to make money elsewhere.

It stinks that health care is so expensive. But by moving to a single payer system, innovation will be stifled. Temporarily that may be fine, but it's like killing the goose that lays the golden egg. Innovation will slow and in maybe 10 years we will be worse off than we were before
