Weird. Why would they have been delaying a cybersecurity upgrade until after a board member has left? Was Todd preventing/holding up the implementation?
Yes, this is how most Wordpress malware works - they inject/publish ad or keyword spam content on the site if the user agent is googlebot. Regular users don't get the ads. It's partially why most people never realise their site has been hacked.
Apple's iCloud servers for Chinese users are located in China, run by a Chinese tech service provider and provides them with the keys - as stipulated by the Chinese government. Of course the government has access to the data.
Tumblr lost 65 million accounts "recently" too - maybe they're just reusing their "we've been hacked" account?

Personally however, I put a huge amount of stock in a site's design (Reddit excluded).
If you're just doing freelance work, I find direct deposit works best. Many clients don't use credit card for large amounts because of fees, which you'll also incur for most online payment systems

By "similar service", do you mean direct competition? If so, I'd stick with what you're doing (esp if it's paying some bills) - it's obviously got traction. And you can't beat being your own boss.
