I'm building a project currently to request for open source library ports from one language to other, and this feature is also available. Where you can input a Library, and it will list a similar libraries.

Though, thinking to spin it off as a separate app altogether. Anybody wanted to help?

Yeah, sounds good. I'll add it today. I also am building another Ruby script which works on top of this to save the articles to pocket.

The points is just a threshold to get a good article instead of just anything. And, Algolia returns maximum of 1000 hits for a query with 20 per page. So shuffling the page to pick up too.

Well put, I totally agree with you. I've worked in support team at two MNCs, and now being a developer now I can guarantee that there exists an really thick border between the two sects..

The differentiation is so deep, even the frequency of outings and the places they take you vary. The work timing differs, shift timing differs, perks differs. After all, the people who make things are revenue generators for the co, and we were nothing but easily replaceable pieces.

I think it's a mixture of both. Getting web devs to dip their toes into mobile development and vice-versa. I really don't see a reason for someone not to pick-up something that will give the best(not-exactly) of both worlds..

Think of the potential if a single language can be used to build apps in multiple platforms - web, mobile, desktop(node-webkit).. I think the language that currently satisfies this is JS and React-native is yet another extension to it.

Thank you Zed Shaw.. This is an excellent resource that has helped me to become what I am today.. I started learning Python using this book and he really takes time to ensure the readers understand what they are doing.

It may be too silly for you programmers, but almost every beginner programmers as me would have definitely cam across this resource. This has helped innumberable and I'm sure it will.. Thanks once again.

Nice Idea.. Question: How the songs would be streamed? say, I add a song to the playlist, then I have to keep connected until the song I've added is streamed from my phone? or playing from youtube or other services?

That's a really cool app but it just meant to write entries and store it as our wish. But this was more of an journal which records all my ongoing entries and have a visual representation of all of them at one place.

Actually, the plan is to start with Dropbox and rolling out support for other cloud services, that's why.. Oh, there are no confirmation emails, I myself hate that.. Only reason email is at the register form is for `Forgot Password`, I've mentioned it in the about page.

Developer here.. This is my first user facing product after becoming a programmer (my journey can be found in my comments and posts here in HN).

I built this after searching for a journal app that just allows me to store my entries only to my cloud storage. There are many people who still prefer plain old text files for writing journal and this is an interface for them.

Would really love your folks' feedback on this thing..

I planned to implement features such as multiple cloud services,search, tagging, Markdown support all down the line based on the feedback and adaptability.

Wow.. just today I blogged about how there is no good secure journal solution, and ended up writing one for my own..

I am building one currently which stores the entries directly to cloud services and without all boatload of features.. just for writing..

I recently became a Programmer (thanks to HN) from a SysAdmin for more than 3 years with Corporates. Now that I am a programmer and that too in a Startup amidst knowledgeable minds first thing is to "Learn" a lot..

Not just programming, but the things that shape a programmer, business handling skills and etiquette and more.

And usual things like * learn a new language a month * build a app a month * code daily apart from regular job * read a book a month and more..

Alright, here it goes..

What was the most interesting, involved, or realistic question you dealt with on HackerRank? It was a rather most common one(i didn't know it was common at that time) - the infamous fruit basket question and a question to create a word builder from two notepad input to a JSON output to third file and parse the fourth and fifth notepad with the JSON output, something like that... I was/am a beginner programmer, so it was a challenging one but others will find it easy as 1 2 3.

If you were a hiring manager, how big a difference would HackerRank make for you?

Would be huge.

On my last interview with the company I am joining soon, after all the technical rounds I sat for an one-to-one HR discussion. At that time, it was clear they are going to make me an offer with an CTC for an average professional programmer of my experience (If you'd read my other comments / submissions, All my experience are from SysAdmin job, so I am a fresher for the developer position).

I asked the HR person, "How I am the one sitting here albeit a fresher, rather an experienced dev" his answer, out of 206 applicants only "6" applicants cleared the coding interview and I am one of them. Rest 5 are ruled out on various basis, but the clear point here is, the initial level programming interview (though its more common questions) have subtracted out 98% of the applications which saved huge amount of time for the company. For a company (esp. startups) time is more precious and these kind of initial evaluations surely helps to sweep out the majority of imposters.

In-Person interview any day. Online evaluation can be treated as an filter but can't be a deciding factor.

One problem with online Q&A is its lowest probability to have a fool-proof prevention mechanism. As I previously said, most of the questions are provided by the HackerRank itself, those which can be easily accessed by anyone signing up for a Employer evaluation account and prepare themselves for the interview.

For company created questions, it won't prevent applicants from looking up the answers in Google since most of them are obvious ones. There were some multiple choice questions which if isn't properly crafted will be easy to find answers too.

And most importantly, you can't KNOW a PERSON from these online Q&A. After all we are hiring a Person, not just his knowledge.

If you keep answering me, I'll keep coming up with more questions, because I am not kidding I seriously nerd out on this stuff Me too nerd out with these since I have an awesome idea (atleast awesome to me) that fills all these problems with respective to hiring landscape. And you are welcome to come up with questions and I ll try my level best to answer them.

They realized it (though its late) and slowly moving away from their Use all MS or Use none MS policy.

Irony that I see this question now. I did a month long migration recently to migrate away from all of my Google services to alternate services distributed among.

I started with Chrome to Firefox, followed by Gmail to Outlook, Blogger to Jekyll (i did that before), GDocs to Office Online,

Pending are those Gdrive and GoogleAnalytics which I will probably move away as soon I can find an apt alternative.

They companies have their accounts with Hackerrank and have some bundles for different set of questions (mostly provided by hackerrank itself[1] and could be self created, but mostly they use the questions provided by the hackerrank) - Python, Ruby, Algorithmic, Testing level- and based on the position they'll invite a candidate to try out the questions (via email).

The hackerrank site itself gives a minimal text editor of the language of your choice along with an execution environment. Of the 5 interviews I attended 1 company asked to try the questions while applying itself, 2 companies have sent the invite after a phone level screening and 2 companies invited to their office to attend the same in front of them.

But, some of the questions are more obvious (FizzBuzz, ChessBoard) that often come up in the generic hackerrank for developers section itself..

If getting hired via it, I do have. So far, 5 out of 6 jobs I applied used hackerrank for initial level screening on programming knowledge.

I ve also worked with them in creating few interview questions, but its via freelancing.

Sometimes, Yes.. I ve always felt being left out when all my friends went on to become developers (the job that I admire the most) and when they are discussing about the problems and quirks they are doing in their respective jobs, while I on the other hand stuck at a SysAdmin position (but its going to change soon.. :) )..

All that time I ll just say to myself, "This isn't the end".
