"Ad hominem" literally means "against the man", and it refers to the logical fallacy of attacking the attributes of the man rather than the logic of the man's argument. That's all there is to it, and you're simply wrong.

Stick your head in a microwave, if that doesn't kill coronavirus, nothing will.
As of this morning, Youtube (ie the default 'recommended' feed) seems to have been scrubbed of all negative coronavirus vids and all negative stock market vids, except for mainstream news videos.
The truth is now officially anyone's guess.
Why do I keep reading the advice that it's important not to touch your face? How is the skin of the hands different from the skin of the face?
Maybe analogous, maybe not. Analogy is in the eye of the beholder. There's no law of the universe that says that consciousness is equivalent to computation. Maybe consciousness is an emergent property of biological systems, along some dimension currently unknown to us.
Does it feel pain? I think not.
The fine line is around whether a machine can actually experience conscious perception, such as actually feeling pain, for example. Of course, there's no way to know...
Good luck sleeping at night
Algorithms is more like Happiness than Poetry.
just think about it... wow.
At the top of the page it will say "manipulation of scores is not allowed".
Holy nitpick, batman.
It's an outcome. "Solution" depends on the goal. If the goal is to have a planet so choked with humanity that almost everything else dies, then no, it's not a solution.
No viable way? All it takes is a single generation to have 50% less children to cut the world population (and therefore carbon emissions) in half.
Not only is it viable, it the solution that will be forced upon humanity if humanity doesn't embrace it on its own terms.
If he can actually address the shortcomings of upwork, etc (and there are MANY), he can always scale up. Nobody right now is providing a good application that models the end-to-end experience of hiring a freelancer for software development. For it to really work, the application would need to force clients to specify their software requirements in a detailed way (for a start).
Hey, after reading this article I tried to sign up at flexiple.com as a freelancer... until it asked me how much I wanted to make in rupees. I live in Canada.
I noticed that the query "foo" AND "bar" does not give the same result as "foo" + "bar".
So what's going on, is "AND" just treated as another keyword now? Lame.
"Time is one of a startup's most valuable assets, and several startups and their CEOs have been robbed of time by SoftBank's actions"
Oh boo hoo! The line up for getting someone's else money slows down sometimes? Or even stops! The nerve!
But still crazy like a fox.
Organic chemistry is the bomb. I was bored to death with inorganic chemistry, maybe because of the way it was presented, but organic chemistry seemed like suddenly being shown that all the cool stuff in the world is made of lego pieces (carbon atoms), and there's a manual for how to put them together in different ways.
I wasn't exposed to it until university, but I always thought the material would make a good intro course for high school chemistry.
She performed the valuable economic function of separating fools from their money.
Wouldn't a restaurant or fast food outlet let you use their bathroom? I think if you make it clear that your options are to take a dump either on their toilet or right where you're standing, they would show you the toilet immediately.
I had PRK and it left me with astigmatism in both eyes. Afterwards I had both eyes redone and the "touch up" made it better, but it was still bad enough that I needed glasses to correct my vision. I'm trying to decide whether it makes sense to try again a third time.
Whether or not a third time would work, my laser surgeon already told me it would be the last time he'd try to fix it (which is a different tune than he was singing originally). Since my surgery, I've bumped into a number of other PRK patients who've had similar troubles.
Also, the procedure left me with "haloing", which means that when its dark outside and you see lights, they all have a white halo around them, which is super annoying.
Another word of warning to potential PRK patients: the recovery period for me was measured in weeks (over a month, for me), and during that time my vision was hampered enough to make it difficult or impossible to work on computer screen. All in all, I wish I never had PRK.
The mechanism for preventing most bad stays is called the reputation system, which is based on reviews. As for exchanging real names, do you think the system would be improved if all participants were completely anonymous? There's a reason a hotel knows your real name and contact information as well. You sound like a troll.
No, because there's a fixed time limit to submit a review, afterwhich the review is posted irregardless. Hey, I guess airbnb put more than 10 seconds of thought into the design of the process, what do you know.
Neither review is visible until both are done, so that's nonsense.
I disagree. I've been both a host and customer for many years, and in general I've found the customer service to be good or even very good for resolving issues either as a host or as a customer.
In fact, many 'scare' articles about airbnb puzzle me, because it seem seems that the problems could have been avoided if the guest had read the reviews and/or booked with a superhost (or other host with a history of good reviews).
Having said that, I do think it's insane that the reviews are no longer listed in chronological order (or at least with the option to view them in chronological order).
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned (and dumped).
Gnat? That would be impressive. How about a single cell. Or even a single protein. Can't even get it to fold right in simulations.
But that one is going to take your job and then make a copy of itself.
The other way of solving the problem is to let people kill each other fighting over dwindling resources as the planet dies and becomes sterile, because we're not smart enough as a species to find and maintain a sustainable state of equilibrium with our environment. This scenario is apparently the one we're choosing, by default.
Human industrial/economic activity is what's killing the planet. The planet cannot sustain the side effects of an economy of 7 billion people. It doesn't matter what you think, it doesn't matter what you say, it doesn't matter if you recycle, or drink out of paper straws, or vote for the green party, or switch to hydrogen cars, or bury your head in the sand. If you want to solve the problem, but don't want to have less children, then figure out another way to reduce the population by billions of people. I can't wait to hear it.
Good grief, there's ONLY one thing: have less than two children! In a couple of generations this would cut the word's population in half, assuming everyone followed step.
