This is a lazy comment.

India's TFR just reached 1.9 which is below replacement rate.. The state I live in with 60m people has 1.5-1.6 TFR and still going down rapidly towards Japan and South Korea level of population decline. This will be seen in the coming decades.

But you can't just go and delete the billions of people already born and are living. You can't change demographics in a day or even a decade.

I can't say user metrics but Google Photos came out of Google+ and it is a massively successful product.

Hangouts (now Meet?) was also a product out of Google+ but considering GChat (the xmpp version) existed before, it was kind of a step backwards.

I think Google Local Guide also has some parts of Google+, not sure.

I love the convenience of physical SIMs. Will hate the day when I don't have a choice but to 'upgrade' to eSIMs.

I have a phone with dual physical SIM card slots. I can go to any country in the world, buy a SIM, put it in, and am up and running. eSIM provisioning at airports is barely available in few coubtries.

I broke the display of my phone? Easy, remove the SIM and put it in a spare phone and I can still make and receive calls.

red tape

I would attribute red tape to only fintech companies. Ideally edtech should have had redtape considering how much rampant these VC funded companies ran riot.

Also, SV has these red tapes too. Bloom Tech -> California BoE anyone? Red tapes are not always a bad thing for the consumers, maybe for those following grow fast and break model.

I have used OAuth2 with and without JWTs as bearer tokens and pretty much used them the same way. JWT helps with fetching the user details without having to hit the DB/backend, and that's basically was the only difference to me.

I believe the issues he is describing is more OAuth2 rather than JWT.

How is it different from any digital payment? Many European countries and the US has been doing digital transactions for like 2 decades now. How was it not authoritarian then but suddenly when the Asian people do it, it's a way to track everything people does and not the simplest explanation which is it makes transactions easier?

It's just not screenshots. Initially the payment apps added moving icons/pictures to differentiate screenshots with actual payment confirmation screens. As a response, some people made specialized apps which dynamically recreated the same exact payment confirmation screen of the popular apps with moving parts, fake transaction id etc.

Probably India must be their short lived launch. They did a launch party and announcement but their fiat payment integration was pulled by the central bank and they never actually launched.

This is a super critical hack, looks really bad for CircleCI. But I don't see any negative news much elsewhere. They will move on.

Also, maybe that localised build system running on an old server for each team seem to be not a bad idea to reduce the blast radius when eventually a hack happens. These providers are supposed to be the gatekeepers and experts who one leaves the tedious and critical work to. If they are just being a leaky cauldron, maybe not bad to cook in my old pot at home.

Timers are very common in Asia. But the countdown timers for Green to Yellow could be dangerous as most people seeing the timer about to be zero from far and speeds up instead of slowing down. Recently many of the traffic signals in my city have removed countdown timers for Green to Yellow and has kept timer only for Red to Green change.

Completely fair banning them over policy violation. But Elon promised 'absolute' free speech when he took over? No one would be complaining about these bans if not for the hypocrisy. I have never seen this two face stand.

Elon is now understanding the risk and fallacy of absolute free speech when some rando stalked his family. But glossed over when others shouted at the same.

Looks neat. The beta launch post is really well written and appreciate the segment on pricing.

I'd appreciate if you would consider regional pricing at some point. As it's priced today, it's more expensive than all the streaming services I use (including Netflix, Disney+). I can certainly understand why regional pricing is not for everyone and its drawbacks but just wanted to ask.

I assume because the US credit card customers are obsessed with reward points and miles and it need to be paid by someone. It's usually the merchants through high MDR. The merchants pass on the costs to the card customers or debit card/cash payers.

I’m in mid of one of those exact death spirals. Finalizing a launch date before even knowing full well what the scope is. Yeah there is a general fuzzy idea of what the end goal is but that’s not what requirements are. A well defined requirement takes too much time to arrive on especially if multiple stakeholders involved, that people trivializing it really get to me.
