I don’t understand the thought process of putting someone down based on what they do for a living

Discounting the counter productive condescension required to be the one putting the other guy down, we should all be honest with a simple fact: any typical software dev (just talking about what I know) can succeed at a gas station job while the reverse is not true. This obviously does not afford the software dev the right to be a jerk to anybody (up or down the ladder).

I honestly don't know how anyone (good person or not) can properly take care of themselves on a Taco Bell hourly salary.

On iOS it requires installing a VPN profile. My understanding from their FAQ is that it is to allow DNS proxying in iOS but it’s not clear to me if that’s all it does. Up to this day, seeing the VPN logo in my status bar has always meant my traffic was forwarded to a VPN server which meant it couldn’t be snooped on by my ISP. Is it also the case here?

Is that VPN setup an "always on"-able setup so that iOS just routes traffic through it without having to manually switch on the VPN client? I run the VPN server bundled with OS X Server and I haven't been able to achieve that.

Don't forget that the ball can come very fast and the keeper will need a split second to adjust. In other cases, the kicker can be masked by another player preventing the keeper to see the ball until very late.

As a European expat in the US, I find this statement to be very accurate. Flat may be fine. However, from what I've seen in the video, the Coin is not only flat but also almost totally anonymized. The cashier would not be able to verify the name against a photo ID or even take a picture of the card. This would be possible with a non-imprintable card.

It's called sleep envy and, some nights when I can hear my wife drift off in minutes and I'm not even close to it, it throws me into that mental tailspin that goes through multiple stages like the whiny "why-me", plain anger, frustration and more. The only result, of course, is an even more delayed start of sleep phase.

I speak to human beings daily. I've known dozens, or maybe hundreds, of human beings who have never been so rude as to pay more attention to their devices than to me when in the middle of a conversation.

I don't know you but, if you're not 20 years old, like the parent, you're talking apple and oranges.

I don't know you or your background but I'm going to guess you may not be part of that younger generation (late high school, early college years) who was literally born with a computer in their crib and came into their teen years with with a smart phone in their hand.

I'm often reminded of the divide between them and my generation (born in the mid 70's) when I visit friends who have children that age, or even in public places where they hang out in groups. I virtually see each of them holding a smart phone, maybe not always using it but definitely at the ready no matter what the circumstances (middle of a conversation with a human being, shopping for clothes, driving, etc...). Even if they don't look at it for more a moment as you say, it's always present and slowly but surely encroaching on real human interactions.

That generation will be entering the world of grown-ups very soon and your argument will rapidly be invalidated.

Spot on. Once you have kids, your self ceases to exist and 100% of your brain power (and patience for that matter) are redirected to the task of rearing those children.

This is appalling. Without knowing the OP's life circumstances or much about the dynamic of human relationships for that matter, jumping to this kind of conclusions only make for a witty post, at best.

Raising kids who will want to "call their Dad" once grown up is hardly about letting them make as much noise as they wish at age 4.

I sometime envy how some people view life as a simple If-Then-This-That... Much easier to sleep at night that way.
