One notion that I didn't really see mentioned much in the comments so far is the opportunity for facebook to expand their product. Facebook is essentially a browser. Almost anything can now be done inside that browser. As Geee mentioned, they are collecting so much data, they can expand their ad offerings. Their search product could be more useful than google's. They could become the hub of the internet where all shopping, media consuming, searching, communicating is done.

Because the sheer numbers of users, I am LONG Facebook for the long-term, but will not mess around with the IPO.

Right now, they're making about $2 a year per user. That's not very much. But they're growing users agressively and have only begun to tap the potential of the platform.

If you believe there's a greater than 50% chance they could execute well enough to be successful in just one of the different verticals they could expand to, then I think it makes sense to get in early on the stock.

I like MealPlan as the product name. Most people who went to college are familiar with that term. For the domain you could do something like MealPlanit.com or GetMealPlan.com, etc.

MealGrid is good too. I think you need to find the true value proposition of your business and see how it applies to your target consumer. So, it wouldn't be "A site to revolutionize meal planning:, it would be something like, "Know what meals to eat ahead of time.". Hopefully, you get my point - just focus on the solution that the customer is getting. Then, have that drive the actual name.

I don't know. I'm not saying it'll catch on or be used. I'm just saying those are the things that make it more compelling than facebook to me. And pointing out that these new "social networks" aren't making us worship ourselves anymore than we used to.

We're born worshiping ourselves. Now we just get to do it a little more publicly. At least since it's a closer group of friends and family on Path, those you "friend" will be more likely to know your true character, and they'll be genuinely interested in what's going on with your life.

Since I think we all agree the post is kind of missing the point, let me ask it like this: He said he liked working a 90 hour week hacking away when he was in grad school. Is it possible to have a hacking spree that is only 40 hours a week and get the best of both worlds; spending the other 40 hours outdoors or with your family?

I guess maybe this guy is the type of person who is all or nothing. We know everyone's different in this way. But to really be devoted to a project and getting it out the door, do you have to work 80 hours a week for 3 months so you can ship, or can you work 40 hours a week for 6 months?

I have some thoughts, but I'm curious as to what others think.

You have to give credit where credit is due. This app is extremely well done. Looks like they have some kinks to work out, but I expect it to be great. And very useful.
