My onsite interview with Google was very fair. It was an all-day event. The engies asked very tough questions and expected you to come up with the answer in about 30 minutes (45 minutes max but you need time to ask/interact).

I didn't make it. But I don't feel their engies are assholes (well may be a couple in my 5 interviews). I have a feeling like they don't care how you interact/approach to solve the issue. If you cannot solve it you fail! There is no partial credit whatsoever. This could turn out to be great if you have canned solutions.

I'll be working pretty close to the Financial district. I wouldn't expect my pregnant wife to work anytime soon though. It could be tough I know. But I hope I could get more network with great entrepreneur minds in NYC. Cheers

Stop whining about not able to work remotely. If you can work remotely why don't you just go to India and work from there?

Same here (south Texas), been working for 7 years, expertise in both java and .net but making mid 70k. I feel underpaid and thinking about jumping ship too.

So for someone has 10 years in C/C++ and 5 in Java, 3 in .NET you can't really tell them that they don't have deep experience in Java or .NET. They could just have 15 years in C/C++ plus 5 in Java and 3 in .NET for the total of 15 years of their development career. They have exposed to a wide range of technologies required to do their jobs. What I mean is while doing Java for most my development career I am also doing .NET for production project! It's not like I do Java for 4 years then stop and develop .NET solely for 3 years.

Sorry I missed it. I've been working as programmer since 2003 in my 20s. About jumping tech I'm not really jumping around either. I really like both Java and .NET development. I've led numerous java server side projects. I could safely assume I'm above average in my java skillset.

F you
