I think they meant 'end' as in the 'ultimate destination' rather than 'conclusion'.

IMO it is a complete bastardization of the phrase.

The genz/alpha version is a noble form of asceticism, while the 'original' meaning is more a hedonistic indulgence without regard for consequences to yourself or others.

I don't think that just because the author has a pseudo-conversation with ChatGPT using voice as the interface means we've passed the Turing test.

They don't seem to be actively interrogating ChatGPT to determine whether it's a human or not - something that I'd expect would still be quite easy to do. And, as I understand it, the Turing test could be administered over text.

I mean, fox news seems to manage doing exactly that just fine without ChatGPT

I'm sure the origins of CUDA are very interesting in their own right, and it cannot be denied that the evolution of the GPU and GPU programming has had a huge impact on the growth of the field.. but, without the specific work of these specific people, at worst I think we'd only be a tiny bit behind where we are now.

The AI craze we have today is built on the continuous, sustained work of a huge amount of people over years and years.

I'm learning this stuff because I think it's fascinating.

To be fair I know I'm light years behind the cutting-edge so I feel I can sleep assured that I won't take too much of the blame for having created our new AI overlords, or taking the jobs, etc.

Also, generative art and LLMs are undoubtedly impressive, but not completely my cup of tea. But you can always take your ML knowledge and find a domain/problem you care about to apply it to. It's not like literally everything will be solved in the future.

It seems to me that if everyone did this (didn't pay the meter and just eat the cost of the tickets from time to time), the city would eventually realize it and would just ramp up enforcement and make bank for a while until people started paying the meters again. So LAZ Parking would end up getting their cut again and the city would be making no less than they are now.

As a side note, I've always thought that the categorical imperative is as good of a rule to follow as any. But sometimes the 'if literally everyone behaved this way' thought experiment can get pretty silly, not to mention impossible to actually determine what would happen in such a case.
