I used to use Remember the Milk back in the day, it was pretty good. Their real time syncing across multiple devices was great!

Emacs Org Mode is not even a competition, not many people apart from developers using Linux use it and its not cloud based. Instead One Note is a great competition to Evernote.

People are following the "hype train" because VSCode is actually a much better and polished editor than Sublime text. Even people who absolutely detested Microsoft have grown a liking for VSCode.

Performance difference used to be palpable 1-2 years ago, not so much now. VSCode is on par with Sublime text in terms of speed(at least for me). I still have Sublime text open all the time for quick note taking, recursive searching etc. but for any coding work, VSCode seems way more polished and gives a better development experience.

Agree with you. VSCode used to be somewhat slower about a year back but not anymore. Yes it uses more RAM than Sublime but for anyone with a decent computer, that is not a concern. The productivity boost with VSCode is much better than with Sublime. Especially for Javascript, there is not even a contest.

I think this is only a problem when working unplugged. I have visual studio code sitting idle all the time and it really doesn't seem to slow down my system. It generally only uses about 500MB of RAM with two windows open with multiple tabs on each. I have 16GB of RAM but thats not much compared to today's standards.

Sublime text using 300mb of RAM is a little odd. Generally in my case, its uses around 20-25MB with 50+ tabs opened.

Couldn't agree more. .NET core is amazing. I generally use Ruby with microframeworks like Roda for most of my projects. But now after spending some time with ASP.NET Core, I don't think I would want to do any web project in a dynamically typed language/framework. The tooling is also awesome with ASP.Net Core.

I would say the support is pretty good for non-Windows based OSes already. Giants like Bing and Tencent have been using .NET Core in production for some time now.
