The author has not seemingly considered the vastly different networking in wasm. You don’t have networking. There is an entirely different utility in these environments, containers are meant to host applications, wasm is an application. Don’t even get me started on disk access, env handling, etc. wasi is great, for the places it does well. It is not a replacement for writing a pure golang/rust/c/julia app and running it in a container, it doesn’t have the facilities for that task.

I have been using the Quest 3 for work for a month and a half now, daily driving it as a trio of monitors for 6-10 hours a day. So far, no major complaints, but maybe we should start wanting for focus distance adjustment, 4 foot may not be ideal all day. I’d like to be able to bring focus in a few inches and out a foot, so that I can at least vary where my eyes are sitting all day, but outside of that I am very excited for whatever the quest 4 will be, because that will likely be a big enough leap from where we are now to be compelling for even more general usage as a computer instead of an “interface” device like they are now.

My infra is this exactly. K8s managed containers that manage qemu VMs. Every VM has its own management environment, they don’t ever see each other, and they work just the same as using virtual-manager, but I get infinite flexibility in my env provisioning before I start a VM that gets placed in its tenant network that is isolated.

The k8s hater squad loves to neglect the fact that k8s can be, just like Linux, fun. The complexity is endearing in a special way. Kubernetes is Linux underneath, and learning how that manifests is a lovely journey to go on.

I’d personally love to do so myself, but I’ve been born already, so I doubt I’ll be able to before I’m dead. Yeah, I’m cynical about fusion, as I am about AI. AI has been around forever, and it always promises “general intelligence” sometime in the near future. Fusion promises sustained net-positive output fusion burns sometime in the near future. Both fields endlessly dancing around their goal, maybe getting closer, but mainly just trying to not stay in the same spot eternally.
