Very cool! Would love an integration with Twilio / phone and text-to-voice and voice-to-text.

Start an agent, receive a call when a response from the user is needed, provide instruction, repeat.

Use case would be to continue the work hands-free while biking or driving.

It appears that this impacted gemini-2.5-pro-preview-03-25 somehow? grounding with google search no longer works.

I had a workflow running that would pull news articles from the past 24 hours. It now refuses to believe the current date is 2025-04-17. Even with search turned on and I ask it what the date is it and it always replies sometime in July 2024.

Not seeing it available in the app or on ChatGPT.com with a pro subscription.

The proposed remedy in the complaint is the divestiture of Instagram and / or WhatsApp (extremely unlikely) and increased oversight on Facebook in the future that would make similar acquisitions much more difficult (more likely).

Square Banking 5 years ago

2021 is a great time to own a small regional / community bank. All the mature FinTech companies are trying to buy a bank to expedite the cumbersome bank chartering process (+ mortgage origination and servicing companies are too)

Hard to see what you can actually put in the dashboards from the website. Would be great if more specific features were shown.

Can confirm, as someone who works in the alternative data industry this service, if widely used, will create a dataset that can easily be sold for >$1M/year to hedge funds, credit agencies, etc.

I've seen quite a few companies that operate in this financial intermediary space and start off with strong privacy ideals, and then when they're getting traction and are raising a Series A/B can't resist adding a cool $5-10M ARR with near zero marginal cost by selling out.

I've noticed filetype:pdf no longer really works - tons of sites that require you to sign up for an account before seeing the file. Used to be a great method to find pdfs of textbooks / other resources.

Nice! Have used quite a few tools like this to convert data government agencies report in pdfs to csvs. The biggest challenge that existing tools fail to adequately address is when table formats vary (e.g., increasing level of indentation). Perhaps formatting those in json first would be easier

Does anyone use AWS or other cloud providers to mine crypto? Can't imagine it's profitable today, but wondering if there was anybody leveraging that in the early days to mine without buying a bunch of equipment.

Viscacha Data | Data Engineer | Full-time | Remote (San Francisco, CA)

Viscacha aggregates unique datasets on the retail industry for use by financial services companies and CPG brands. We track really cool data that can help answer specific questions (e.g. How many AirPods were sold in SF Target stores on the morning of December 20th?).

Our team includes builders and analysts with experience at McKinsey, Citi, and Bridgewater and our backers include experts in retail investing and early backers of startups like Angie's List and Tesla.

We're looking for help to grow and support our data collection and delivery efforts in addition to building out our broader tech infrastructure. If you're excited about data and this sounds interesting, check out our full job posting and send us a message here: https://www.viscachadata.com/careers/data-engineer

Primary technologies we use that you should have at least a basic level of familiarity with: R, AWS, Snowflake

Why are you letting people without deposits get in on the drawings? Seems like I could just spam you with mail and get a bunch of entries without depositing savings, at the cost of users who are depositing.

From the website: > Mailing In. You can receive one (1) Ticket by sending a handwritten sheet of paper with your name, address, e-mail, and phone number to: 45 East 22nd St. #26B New York, NY 10010. For each completed sheet of paper, you will receive one (1) Ticket. If you want to select your own numbers you should include those numbers on the sheet of paper. If you do not provide numbers, they will be randomly provided. Limit of one request per envelope. The entry will award a Ticket for the drawing that starts on the next Monday, after the mail in was received (not postmarked). ... Limit of 10,000 Tickets per person per week, regardless of method of obtaining a Ticket.

Weather Underground has a questionable track record with respect to foreclosing public access to weather data. Leadership at both the Weather Company and Accuweather are good friends with Trump. Shortly after Trump appointed Barry Myers head of NOAA (former CEO of Accuweather), NOAA dramatically curtailed its public data access in lieu of exclusive access to large companies like Weather Underground. For more on this, check out Michael Lewis's The Fifth Risk.

Not irreversible (but the DOJ rarely breaks up already merged companies due to the difficulty of "unscrambling the eggs")!

This event could create a reason to block the merger ex post, especially given last week's news that DISH may not buy Boost Mobile from T-Mobile, which was a key provision of the merger to reduce its anti-competitive effects.

Thanks so much for all the support and volunteers on our original Show HN post showing senate data! We've been able to add executive branch data and are well on our way to adding data for members of the House of Representatives. Hope you enjoy.

Yup, that's exactly what the linked article describes, but you have to take into account barriers to entry. Consumers prefer short term, lower prices on Amazon, others are pushed out, Amazon raises prices in the long run (already seeing this in prices and other ways - like higher search results) and strong network effects make barriers to entry too high for firms to re-enter.

Theoretical competition =/= actual competition. Yes, that could technically happen, but Amazon's market power makes it extremely difficult. Here, there's a two-sided marketplace (consumers and sellers) where Amazon has both sides. It's not enough for one side of the market to decide they want out. For example, see what merchants have done with Shopify and the Shop app (merchants are all on board, but consumers don't care).

Sure, there could be some corruption going on, but theres a much more mundane legal reason the DOJ won't bring cases. They often won't prosecute because the costs of losing anti-trust cases are so high, largely because of the way antitrust law is written. When the DOJ brings a case and loses, the agency loses all future power to bring a similar case because precedent is binding, so they only prosecute the most obvious anti-trust violations. As all these conflicting comments in this thread and related articles suggest - an antitrust case against Amazon is quite complex and not your straightforward monopoly or price fixing case.
