Then you will need two senior devs. This is because rockstar devs rarely want to mentor junior devs nor attend meetings. Most inventors are not professors.

"Contractors are generally not the strongest technically"

Nonesense. Contractors are actually much stronger technically because they usually come in to complete a specific task and are not usually trained by the company.

At least that is my experience here on the east coast.

Contractors get paid way more in the US especially on the East Coast because they usually have to take care of their own benefits and taxes

" I would also consider the effects that knowledge of an explored-but-abandoned acquisition would have on your employees' motivation if they found out"

excellent point.

"Just because the risk of a crime is zero, that doesn’t mean that a criminal will engage in that crime. If that were the case, thieves would go about stealing dandelions and day-old newspapers"

Now, that's classic.

"I disagree. I think they have a wealth of talented engineers."

That statement is false in many ways. As a developer, you keep seeing substandard products from Microsoft. Have you looked at the architecture of SharePoint? compare SqlServer CE to SQLite, not to mention the horrible tutorials and source code which Microsoft keeps putting out.

C#/.NET is an excellent platform/language but Microsoft keeps putting out horrible sub standard code/tutorials

Actually there is a difference: Employees from Top Tier universities make better slaves .i.e. They have been trained to "Do as you are told" (no creativity allowed), and "Wait for your turn"
