Satoshi: how Craig Wright's deception worked

As a host I can confirm. 3 days ago I had March 100% booked. Yesterday the entire 2nd half of the month was empty. I slashed prices and bookings are starting to trickle back in. April is looking really lean, though, and May has multiple bookings from European citizens. It’s only money, not health, but the economic impact of COV-19 seems immense.

If you think you can convince him not to pull the trigger. I’d rather be standing at ground zero. Dying of radiation poisoning is an experience I don’t need to see to believe.

My father in law was at the bikini islands for the test runs (died of cancer), my great uncle was on the ground in Japan shorty after they dropped Hiroshima (died of cancer), and great uncle’s kids has Japanese rifles he recovered from sites that glowed in the dark as late as the mid 70s.

Just don’t piss him off. Just got done reading “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue.” Starts a bit slow and pretentious, but once it gets going... I dislike Thiel immensely, but hole-lee-shit he pulled off one of the most complicated, ruthless, and complete revenge plots I’ve ever heard of. That he kept secret for NINE YEARS while planning and executing (quite literally) his scheme.

Even if you know the story well, the book is worth a read or listen.

Long, but great pod. Patrick Collison and Ezra Klein discuss:

- Innovating in highly regulated markets - Breaking into well established markets by challenging assumptions, fine tuning product experience, and using lean startup principles - Using time horizons strategically... The discussion about Jeff Bezos "simply willing to wait longer than your competitors" at 1:12 in really resonated with me. - Building company culture - Avoiding group think

Thanks for a thought provoking post, Sam. It's good to challenge one's beliefs regularly.

He’s right that the economy is not growing nearly fast enough

Can you share the data and rationale you used to come to this conclusion? I get there's a hugely growing and unjust divide between classes, but the macro economy seems pretty healthy. GDP growth has slowed [1], but it's positive and we're a much bigger economy (so harder to grow as fast).

[1] http://www.multpl.com/us-gdp-growth-rate/table/by-year

I get the appeal to an extent, but the interface is so bad I don't use it much. As an almost 40 something with an increasingly poor memory, I often lose track of the "conversation" because previous messages in the (non)thread have disappeared.

I was curious about this as well. I believe Google started indexing tweets in 2014. Twitter gave Google a slice of the data well before then.

If this is correct, I'm curious if those unindexed URLs were Twitter.com URLs (tweets) or 3rd party URLs, meaning those pages were shared on Twitter before Google indexed them.

Edit: grammar

Even if it is true, it changes nothing.

I haven't watched the videos yet, so apologies if this is covered. Looking forward to seeing them.

If it is true, it changes everything. If you're simply a character in my simulation and not a real human, then there's no reason why I shouldn't screw "you" over to maximize my personal enjoyment.

That's the most actionable point of the thought experiment, to illustrate the importance ethics.

The broader conversation is very interesting on a number of levels, but I have a specific question for this audience... do you actually pay attention to the trending topics on Facebook? They're not prominently displayed and if FB really wanted to influence the conversation on X, they could be doing so much more IMO. I feel like they're still trying to test their way into this experience.
