Skill wise we look for anything, from backend to devops, full stack or front end, datasci/eng and streams. Cloud or Unix admin or networking experience very helpful, but also service now or quite honestly anything. we are almost always remote.

As consultants we work on a lot of very different things. This week I have been setting ci-cd pipelines on kube in azure, doing Kafka streams applications on a colo deployment and some AWS cognito and amplify. This to say, it’s a great learning opportunity and a good chance to expand your horizons. I need someone that is ready and excited about continuously learning new things.

Tech stack: AWS, Azure, python, js, node, php, bash, go , Java. A bit of all the things honesty.

I stand with OP on the bugs. I own top of the line 15in, and can confirm audio freezes, glitches and ffs sometime also random reboots.

You really should hear how presumptuous you sound. How are teaching your son to deal with people? How is he going to learn that he lives in a society? That sometime life is boring? that sometimes you are not the only one? 3 hours a day might be enough for the curricular material, but schools are much much more than that.

I believe that when you homeschool your child, you are just blindee by your presumption. For one good student that comes out, you have one thousand religious zealot that believe earth is flat. It allows atrocities a la "dancing mom". It allows people to avoid vaccinations. Without mentioning the social awkwardness. I truly believe homeschooling is also a crime against humanity.

I clearly agree that the current graphics sucks, however I feel you are missing one major point in this discussion: Where's the sponsor's promotion? That said, if I had to guess why we ended up with this abominable graphics, I believe that 30% of it is pure corruption, 40% is tasteless "let's make it look like a yunday" and the remaining is actually the desired "favela style".

very nice idea, very nice execution. Few things that imho need to be fixed (probably fast fixes): 1) Ensure that the print settings are correct. i.e. the pattern get splitted on two pages, for no reason. 2) resizing the browser window stretches/squeezes the picture. You shoud probably listen to the resize events and re-trigger the generation, change the patterns to some css, or simply set the generated image as cover. 3) translate the code in english. In softwares, having standards is a good thing.

I always wonder what would have happened if humanity had invested in conveyor belts instead of cars and roads for the last 100 years. I can't shake away the sensation that it could have been a better call.

In my former group there was no micromanagement, nor all this crap. There was however a shitty situation too where the bully was the golden-boy. That was the place where this happened:

    A, B, C write paper, submit to his pal D.
    D appoints E,F,G as reviewers.
    C, and E were in school together.
    F was a C student.
    G sends the paper back to C to auto-review it. 
    C cannot be bothered, so delegates the review back to A.
    A reviews his first name paper.

I hope you will understand if I don't tell his name.

My wife is still in the lab. And she's already facing enough shit, + the retaliations because I've betrayed the PI by leaving. We don't need any legal crap added to the mix.

However, I can tell you that there are many investigations ongoing, ranging from sexual to misconduct to stealing research money, and that he's in hiring freeze since few months.

Is hard to find someone this bad, but the worst part was not the micromanagement. That is pretty common. It was the constant lack of appreciation, being blackmailed over the visas, his holding papers hostage for years until your loyalty was proven. A colleague has been there for 4 years of post-doc, and has 0 papers published, 6 ready to go on his desk. And the first one is from 3 years ago.

I can go on all day over this.

I resigned yesterday at the second post-doc.

It seems my efforts to communicate to you the importance of putting in the time and focusing on * your * research -- again, your, not mine -- are being ignored. I just saw a group of three graduate students going merrily to gym at 4 PM. At the same time, the lab is empty -- most of the day, not to mention evenings.

Here is what is going to happen, effective immediately:

The CORE HOURS for EVERYONE in the lab are from 10 AM to 6 PM. If you prefer to come early I can -- on an individual basis -- allow 9 AM -- 5 PM.

During core hours, I want to see EVERYONE WORKING, if you are not at your desk, you must leave a note where you can be found.

Saturday is the SAME core hours as the rest of the week.

The minumum number of WORK hours I expect -- not schmoozing around, going to gym etc -- is 60 per week, This means that in addition to 6 * 8 core hours, I expect to see you in the lab for at least additional 12 hrs a week.

Vacation in the group is TWO weeks a year -- in line with the Grad School policy. In special circumstances, I might consider an extra week.

There are NO exceptions to the policy outlined above.

If you have any questions s to the "legality" of these requirements, I suggest you talk to ____ or to the Graduate School officials.

I am sorry it had to come to that but it appears other means of persuation simply fail.

This is so sad, on so many different levels that is hard to pretend is not true.

While my hearth fights the need of shouting "stop behaving like a whiny bitch about the company relationships", then you realize that companies in US are equal to peoples.

And that, as John Stewart was pointing out recently, maybe sometimes they also pretends to have religious rights.

So I am not surprised that something like hires get taken as betrayals.

However, if logic had to enter this equation somehow, we should realize the purpose of a business is business. So, if an employee is an asset you should treat him as such, and let him go.

And if you or your friend CEO get emotionally attached to an employee, you have larger issues. One, maybe, is a narcissistic disorder.

This is so sad. Really? I know there's market for the non original coffee, but Is already non-trivial to find a decent taste, that is compatible and is cheaper than the original. I'd like to state this controversial position, in the hope that is read with the open-mindness of the "what you don't say" thread:

I believe that many of the problems of our society are due to people afraid of dying: Accumulating money in the delusion of fighting death. The universal fight for happiness is impersonated in one extra year of struggle, often by sacrificing the life of others. Seems to me that despite 2000+ years of history, a concept such as the acceptance our own frailty, and the consequent joy of every extra day, is too hard to be learned.

I don't want to sound mean but he's still <90years old. He can be ripped as much as you want, but until he at least pass the century, this article is pure speculation. Let's see how he fares in 20 years, then we discuss.

Then, being mean, what I see here is a narcissistic guy who's saying: "I'm so cool and I bet that with exercise I will survive until 130years. Everyone should worship to my phallus idol"
