They might be referring to when Apple removed subpixel antialiasing around ~2018. It caused some consternation at the time because there were still plenty of non-retina Macbook Airs in service. While it technically works, macOS really is not meant for non-high DPI displays.

The fidelity vs. performance decision is precisely what Sony markets the PS5 Pro as eliminating. I’d also just prefer developers make 60fps the baseline, then use any additional horsepower for more frames or more real resolution.

And each level up in RAM typically includes a bump to CPU and/or GPU core counts as well, so it is even more difficult to discern the true pricing. Annoying, but also understandable that they don't want to produce every possible combination of specs.

Don't get me started on needing to buy a 1TB+ iPad Pro to get double the RAM, though.

Seems reasonable to me, and a far cry from "an explicit, open policy of not prosecuting petty crime" that is somehow country-wide.

Apple's made no such announcement, and the presence of the "Pro" moniker implies that a non-Pro version has always been planned.

Yes, 25% more RAM is significant. As you said, the M1 has significantly less performance, but it has enough memory. We can infer that RAM is the deciding factor from that.

It’s about RAM, I think. Only A17 Pro has 8GB, which we can infer is the new baseline.

Most home theater systems are in a home where the noise floor is significantly higher than a theater, which the audio mix was targeting. Dynamic range compression is often appropriate and when applied correctly improves the experience in homes.

The Apple TV has a setting called "reduce loud sounds"

This does help, but at some point Apple increased the compressor’s release time so that it’s far too quiet even 10-15s after the loud transient. I wish they would make it behave more like a brickwall limiter.
