"is"-ness is a strong word.

how complex?

Yeah I thought about this very hard actually, and came to the conclusion that just a "weight"(+) button is enough.

And, if you care that much so that you would waste your time providing more ... contextual meta-info (about the weight itself), you simply need a pop-up and a quick way to select words from a common dictionary. Certain users can even make content "more spammish" by simply increasing the weight with a click (they agree with the labeling and they are "special" in some way).

This, and the weight itself should provide enough info for a comprehensive "decoration" of the postings.

There is, it's the downvote button. The distinction of why a downvote is useless.

How about a tag system associated with each posting? Then you can have just a scalar "weight" and a set of keywords (string labels), each with a designated meaning. You press a "plus" button or something, and a menu with optional tagging pops up (tag clouds can be used).

Some tags could be "spam", others could be "didn't read" and users can build their own threshold filters for tags. (0) spam; (4) didn't read; (3) incomplete; ...

It was very funny making Dialogs with a randomly moving "OK" button responding on WM_MOUSEOVER (or something like it). Make them bigger, toolboxes, always on-top, and disable the top-right "x" button. Fun times :P

Sorry But I will recapture his thinking here:

    * Try to be explicit { rather than implicit }
    * Carefully consider inlining { large blocks of code }
    * Do not use static initializers { for infrequency or trivialities }

Something TO HACK and to DEVELOP YOUR minds WITH

I do not feel the shame of self-promotion, thank you for not annoying me with downvotes, much like Reddit.

Goodbye, Hacker-News, It's been a blast with you. I am not going to post anything else here, expect only comments. Sometimes, when you care for something or someplace, I think, it is normal to react with EMOTION. Emotion is the key feeling of Desire (or Lust), and is the driving force behind "attraction" and "dis-traction" of everything, therefore, My emotions here (if you can detect any) are dry, and it's time to move on, for me.... Ki..

Something to ponder WHICH exactly COVERS your idea of hacking:

Himuretsu (The Speach of the String, {for remembering passwords, and other shit for instance):

Goodbuy.

* Now that you have your Grammar, Tools, and Language base

you can start practicing

in Three Areas:

! Desire (lust & will, ...)

    Knowledge is Power, but Lust For knowledge always beats Power of Knowledge
! Power (strength & endurance, ...)
    Power is Knowable, but the Seduction of Lust for Power is greater that Know-how
! Knowledge (meaning & clarity, ...)
    Knowledge CAN be POWERFUL.
Coming soon:

! Machinistic Codification. ! Photographs and Pictures. ! A folder packed neatly

Enjoy!

First, Grammar (sorry bout that, syntax rules comes from Grammar, and I am still learning & earning my Humi-retsu-gi)

The best Grammar I can come up with is contained in the following poetic passages:

    Everything is a String, and Knots are tied on it.
    Two knots and you've got a Knit going on, but you never know if there is a knit,
                                                          behind your  untying knot.
    A single String is enough, but you cannot be sure if it is. And this statement is called Versumi.
    Some think there is Only one Versumi, and they call it Versuni, and you are free to be one of them...

    You can always knit into a splice, and you should know that a splice is at least one knot away from a different knit.

    And you can always split, but you never know if a split is also a cut.

    When you see the String, you call it Verse, and be sure that there is always a space with a visible string, the verse.

    Tie a knot, but before you squeeze hard, form a loop with the other part. That's your heart.

    Form a loop, start closing, put another loop inside it, and squeeze hard! That is you.

    Once you run your fingers, your mind start fingering.
    Once you encounter a knot, your mind knows what.
    Then you notice other knots, your mind refers to them as difference.
    You start seeing patterns, and you go on with joy,
    until you meet that unwitting knitted end
        of a simple String.
       The end.

    And then you know, if you're alive or dead...

Ups! I almost forgot! We need a Trusty separator with meanings:

-Tsu Glyph (Tsu-ki, Sun-tsu, Lao-Tsu, Tsu-nami, etc etc.) now Tsu-ki is a DIRECTED KI at the "enemy" without specification on how exactly (usually a forward boxing "tap", straight forward, bight might be a jab)

Tsu is something you place while thinking ABOUT something else (meta-glyph if you will) So you have MANY type of Tsu's with ya, and Tsuki is just an example for your own futrhter Tsu-king...

It is also the first TRUE not!Vowel. Some-thing.

  Form an Ai, and then Form a doubled Ki (Aa then Ki Ki)
This is your Alphabet. Now we need some Grammar and Syntax.

* Re-tsu:

Sooner or later, you're either going to make a second mistake, or you're going to repeat the previous process. Doesn't matter. Before you continue braiding, NAME the first mistake "Ai"... Say it as if you're training Aiki right now! say "Ai!" {you can even shout out it like "Aa-a-a-yi!" with all your lung's might at "a-yi!", and increasing "aaa")

  One mistake, one KNOT {on a random side of the Humi)
  One Glyph: Ai (A/a or Aa/aa, short A)
  One Gesture: {up-left, to, down-right} hand opened as if chopping.
    Meaning:
    "Ou..." "ah!", "Owye!", "I say,... is ...", etc.
After some more braiding, and your impetuous "Ai!" battle cry (if retsu-do.ing, always check for people nearby ;)), Wait for a second, meditate, fix your breathing (you shouldn't be breathing w/ ?presekulki? interruptions and breath-holding)

Then braid out a "Ki" inside your Himu:

  One mistake on a random side & one mistake on the other
  One Glyph: Ki (K-hh-yi, "khi")
  One Gesture: {up-left, down-right, up-right} hand opened as if chopping.
      Meaning: "Matter/Energy/Inner/Outer Force?... my ass..."
      Ki means many many things with your _intent_ in mind
      "Does", "Do", "Doing", "This", "this-doing", "this-does?", "what?", "what is that?" "Queee?" "ke-pasa"
Continue braiding without any mistakes for now. Increase your technique, when you feel ready, BRAID out a DO (method, The Way, way, Way) Random. Opposite. original side.

Now you're ready. For Kimu-retsu-do (or mindful Aiki)

Once you catch the basic Language you can "upgrade it" with combinations of knitting and mistake knots.

Needed materials:

* Humi Himu: Humi (a girl. hair, beautiful hair, braided hair?) Himu (A string. {of something... doesn't matter that much })

Take a long piece of string and cut it in three parts (you can use a single knotted humi if you wish, but this is more practical, as you can have 3 separate himu's). Tie them into a knot at one end, and make sure you don't knit/knot it too tight.

this is your Versumi *(A beautiful piece of String tied with a knot)

The Versumi is a piece for meditation, but Also a piece for training your memory and your dexterity. Start braiding it like a little girl... Don't think "That's gay"{, you rather BE gay (if you wish it so) }

Humi-retsu-do: (Kata)

As you descend down into the braiding process, sooner or later you would be faced with your limitness and you will make a MISTAKE in the braiding (it's gotta be either on the left or on the right).

If you are perfect, then MAKE the mistake on purpose. You have got to have at least ONE mistake in your Versumi, otherwise it's just a simple braided himu (string) and you are probably wasting your time

  ! Make a mental note of this mistake, and continue braiding. What spurred the MISTAKEing is not important and usually distractive.

Since I am leading my efforts into a reading/translating/communicating toolkit I find this very interesting, and personally useful (I need people to share their opinions like that):

* There is no documentation

My code is not documented, then again I am using the principle idea behind __doc__: Code IS documentation, and I've decided to blend the difference between code, document, and even data.

* There is no desktop version

My road-map includes a core frame, which has Presentations for Terminal, GUI desktop, and webby version of it (html, css, js, ...)... um yeah... Presentations, Control, Model (model slice, inner model slice, perspectives, view-points): PCM (Present, Control, Model)

* There is no Next button!

The main web reader I plan to provide, has a Letterbox layout, with next: (chapter, page, etc.) prev: (...), bookmark-tags (alabala bla bla [: some name for the BM])

* + Sequential Layout-ing:

Instead of even touching the buttons or mouse, you let the "AI" helper (Wordy) to blurt it out on the terminal paragraph, by paragraph, sentence by sentence, word by word, with tempo and optional "accenting"... Just like a kid listening to his father telling stories. You have the option of speeding up the tempo, or simply push it forward

* +Convo-trees

Trees of Conversations (Documents outputed and printed)

This is highly wondorous tool which I still conceptualize with the following scenario: You are a Weed Farmer with A blog, mail, etc. You want to communicate with your prospective buyers, but you don't want cops in your clientele. Therefore, you decided to place a mail on the site, and only after an interview, you decide whether the seeker is a sincere buyer or a cop (or interviewer) under cover.

So you have those repetitive tedious interviews with common answers and such, and you WANT to automagicate the process a bit.

What if you put Wordy behind the mail-server and make it redirect things it can't respond to, to your advanced intellect? Nice? may be. Depends on Wordy.

... The rest of the arguments OP presents are technical hiccups rather than poor user interface design mal-techniques (choice of paradigms)

Well it's kind of a joke at the expense of the people who push these things into existence on the web.

I managed OK till the js part, and got bored (I suck at js anyway)
