Agreed. The more unique situations I program in, whether it is new people I am building software for or whether I am building on a new tech stack, the more I realize why so many packages and solutions exist in pip and npm.

Coding new solutions in new ways has helped me learn so much. Getting a career that supports that was one of the biggest catalysts for me (unsurprisingly), however, attempting to code anything is certainly beneficial.

If anyone here has an issue with their Claude Desktop app seeing the new MCP tools you've added to your computer, restart it fully. Restarting the Claude Desktop app did NOT work for me, I had to do a full OS restart.

I am not sure how these large companies think they will reach "greater-than-human" intelligence any time soon if they do not create systems that financially incentivize people to sell their knowledge labor (unstable contracting gigs are not attractive).

I have not had a single issue with migration or an immigrant, ever. I've never met a single person, in the US, with a material issue related to migration or immigration. I have never felt worried about being near a migrant/immigrant based on who they are or their behavior.

Hmm, I think you are correct, and from my perspective, speaking to the idea of human heuristics and biases.

Ironically, I think societies and cultures need long periods of peace (not in an extreme sense, but rather enough peace to allow for safer conflict) to have the time and ability to introspect on their heuristics and biases, as well as integrate other people's perspectives.

I think diplomacy itself can help gear a country to defend itself by creating powerful allies who will come in a time of need.

At the same time, I do not think there is any justification for war or harming others non-defensively.

The amount of money and human power we piss away with wars and conflict is so sad. Humans are the most advanced and capable complex adaptive systems in the world. Why waste such a precious resource?

There is a little-known actor... oh what was his name again? Oh yeah, Martin Sheen-- He narrated a documentary covering the effects of a tribe being downwind from a nuclear testing area. So perhaps there is some understandable concern about being downwind from an Elon Musk-supported facility or any large engineering facility.

I almost commented the same thing. Framing things as "good/bad/so-so" is kind of moving the target. If we are focusing on who might use the model, rather than considering that when focusing on a model that accurately represents reality and altruistically aids humans... we will lose sight of the really valuable things in life. The reality is that I do not think that people are good/so-so/bad as humans are equipped with extremely complex and diverse adaptive systems with near-limitless capabilities. Sure, I am just re-framing, however from my perspective, we are not reducing humans to "good/bad/so-so."

It seems like some folks in this thread are conflating globalization with ultra-powerful organizations using their capital and influence to spread to the rest of the world. Other countries are simply untapped resources in their eyes. More folks to consume their products & services.

I think mixing human cultures can be very complex (human social culture is certainly some form of a complex system) and you're correct that it can cause a lot of change and possibly danger like culture getting erased. When cultural integration is done well, it can cause a lot of beautiful things to happen: appreciation and love of the culture(s), sharing the culture, and fusions of culture. Please note: The above is a lot harder said than done.

Books, especially textbooks, would be amazing. These things can get pretty huge (1000+ pages) and usually do not fit into GPT-4o or Claude Sonnet 3.5 in my experience. I envision the models being able to help a user (student) create their study guides and quizzes, based on ingesting the entire book. Given the ability to ingest an entire book, I imagine a model could plan how and when to introduce each concept in the textbook better than a model only a part of the textbook.
