I'm a non technical founder, so this is just a script I purchased online and put behind one of my domain names. Just needed to get the feet wet and go through the process of releasing an app. It's got 100+ users so I'll get back to promoting it once/if I can attract a technical co-founder. Just launched http://fishtaank.com so we'll see how this one goes...

trademarks are within a field of business, so two different trademarks could use the same name as long as they're in distinct fields with little chance of confusion

I was thinking the 'field of business' would be mobile app development but my mobile app uses a different name so theoretically if the above statement is true I should be OK. Thanks for the feedback!

I can handle a marketing challenge. My Immediate market is not the most progressive when it comes to technology so most folks around here have no idea what Google TV is. Thanks for the feedback :)

I'm not really in a tech center and the lawyers I've contacted have suggested I operate with the name as long as I can. I'm not to keen on that idea as I don't want to create a bad name for myself but I really need to start marketing ASAP.

I'm not a huge fan of Social networking and/or providing Facebook with my personal info, but as a musician and small business owner the idea of not having a social profile seems a little ridiculous. I also agree, it's going to be difficult to find or build a Facebook killer, but what about a network that works with Facebook offering some of the services they offer with less non-sense, more utilities and a level of customer service that is not possible with a user group of hundreds of millions. There is no doubt that Facebook is great at social networking but that still doesn't mean it's annoying. I use my Facebook account almost everyday but rarely do I post status updates or even look at my news feed. I do, however, like the access it gives me to other utilities on the web with the little effort it requires once you have a FB account. Much of what I do for work would not happen if I needed to create accounts for every service I wanted to check out.

With that said, sorry for the plug...I created http://fishtaank.com, AKA, my weekend project... for the last three years. It's a small collection of open source scripts I've found on the web that allows musicians and businesses to create a better social profile thats focuses more on what they do/offer as opposed to what they say. Trivia question of the day? who cares...

Thanks for the feedback. I've considered making the Taank It! page the homepage to help clarify things a little. The grey boxes in the image above should be photos of the featured bands with links to the profiles. I'll work on clarifying things.

This looks really good! Just released something similar for music :)

You could take it a step further and turn your startup into a reality TV show. Make it something like Jersey Shore mixed with the Apprentice. If you add enough drama and sexual tension it wouldn't really have to be about anything to make it interesting.
